Life Science Angels, Inc. (LSA) is the premier angel investment group focused solely on biotechnology and medical device companies. It was established by senior life science executives and experienced angel investors to meet the need for seed and early stage funding for life science companies that is often not available from venture capitalists or individual investors. By identifying promising investment opportunities and bringing together members who add sector-specific experience, broad networks, and financial backing, Life Science Angels is able to assist emerging companies to position themselves for later-round venture-backed funding.

Since 2005, LSA has invested approx. $40,000,000 in over forty companies which have received an additional $600+million  follow-on funding from VCs. (See Companies.), with three liquidity events - NSpine (acquired by Synthes), Textronics (acquired by Adidas Inter’l) and Vasonova (acquired by Telemedix) and one IPO, Zogenix.

Our Members

LSA members include over 100 high-net worth accredited investors with significant experience in life science operations and investing. Members include prominent executives, scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs from the life science products and services sectors who participate in the deal sourcing and due diligence, as well mentoring and supporting LSA’s portfolio companies. We also have 20 top-tier VC firms that have joined to gain access to additional deal flow.

Our Approach

Life Science Angels is a not-for-profit corporation created for the benefit of its members. We have estblished two separate committees to review biotechnology and medical device investment opportunities. The investment committees select the companies to present at one of our member dinner meetings based on a rigorous due diligence process. Members make their own investment decisions, but the investments are made through a single LLC. Typical investments range from $250k to $750k, with syndicated financings reaching $10 million. For more details, see About Us and Companies.

Life Science Angels utilizes a best practices approach to our organizational and investment activities. To learn more about the “Best Practices” of angel investing from the Angel Capital Association, click here.

Scholastic Partner - Quest Scholar Program

spacer

Quest is as a ‘Rhodes Scholar’ program for motivated, high-achieving low-income students. In increasingly large numbers, Quest finds talented, underserved kids that no one else has reached. We then nurture them, help them gain admission to top colleges and, equally important, prepare them for jobs and the real world. Quest is non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Quest is unique in several ways:

  • Quest prepares motivated students for success in life rather than just admission to top colleges. We have a rigorous excellence focus at every juncture.
  • Quest generates revenue from our college partners, which covers 70% of our annual expenses.
  • Students are expected to give back in exchange for our help. Quest is not a handout, but a leadership incubator.
  • Quest finds talented students the top colleges can’t – we encourage talented students to apply who were previously discouraged, and we can find a lot more through our proprietary recruitment methods.
