spacer Creative Direction & Design

For the last 15 years I have been helping companies create valuable customer experiences through graphic design and interactive tools. Most of my work has been in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. I have provided design solutions for agencies with big brand clients, for high-tech companies, and for small startups (some of whom have made it big). Please visit my Clients page to see who I have worked for.

I am a ‘hands-on’ Creative Director who can deliver individual graphic design, social media and marketing solutions or can build and lead a multidisciplinary team of designers, writers, usability specialists and technologists for self sufficient or large projects. Please visit my Expertise page to read about how I can help your company.

Interests & Motivations
When I’m not doing work-for-hire I’m usually trying to tire out my border collie on hikes, working on being a vegetarian, blogging about design, scheming my next vegetable garden, reducing my carbon footprint, finding my new favorite restaurants, and hopefully planning new art projects.

I am a member of The Living Principles community of creative action for collective good. This framework “aims to clarify the multiple, interrelated dimensions of sustainability and guide purposeful action in everyday design and business practice.”

My special interests:
Sustainability & long term thinking
Technology as everyday, useful tools
Community supported agriculture
Clean tech
Animal rights
Eco-friendly products & resources

Elseware: Social Media, Art & Events
Complimenting my work as a Creative Director, I run a couple blogs and Twitter accounts. I’ve found these experiences have helped me become a better designer and story teller, and have given me a deeper understanding of the Social Media ecosystem.

Since graduating from design school I’ve dedicated a little time for fine art projects over the years, but I’m still hoping to find a way to do more. Art is a constant reminder that it takes time to perfect ones skill and patience to reach the “zone”.

I organize SF EcoTuesday, a unique, structured monthly networking event for sustainable business leaders. My hope is to draw more people from the design community to SF EcoTuesday as a place to connect business ideas with design strategy and solutions. This is a chance for designers to directly network with entrepreneurs and be more involved in work that effects change for the common good.

Budcozy is my side project to rid the world of tangled earbuds and headphones. I created the concept and solution, and hand-craft the product using sustainable and up-cycled materials. Budcozy lives on in my spare time.
