How Do You Want It All To Feel?

This is the BURNING QUESTION Danielle Laporte asks on the first of her new series ~ The Burning Questions Series! and it was exactly what I needed to read, and feel this morning.

I had been stepping back last week to get a sense of how I was 'feeling' about my life and my newfound career.  I was asking myself the same questions ~ how was I feeling? How do I want other people to feel? How do I get my message across so that people really 'feel' it?

And then this post came out this morning. As you are aware from following me you always get a video first thing monday morning and I know that some of you have come to expect that and look forward to starting your week off with a bit of food for thought,  a little introspection, a little let me take a look at that in my life, kinda way.

And I will continue to do that ~ don't worry!  But I want this to be an evolving relationship where we both grow.  And when I feel a growth spurt (as I did this past week), I had to take some time and look at it, stand up against that doorframe and measure how much I grew!

Because If I'm not sharing my growth with you all, in addition to ~ my insights and been there, let me help you through that part of your journey ~ how real will it be for you, or for me?

Today I am answering Danielle's first burning question !

How do you want it all to feel?

But in my fashion.

in a video.

check it out.

Now, I want you to answer the burning question for yourself ! How do you want it all to feel?

I want you to write it down and place it somewhere that you can look at it every day – over your desk, inside your vanity cabinet in the bathroom, on your refridgerator, wherever you will see it often and get in touch with those feelings and take them with you on your daily journey.

I also want you to share them with this community, post them below in the comments section and let's get a 'feeling-fest' started.  The good vibes will flow and everyone will be adding their love to the soup!

Shoot For The Moon

Set your sites high ~ go for the gold ~ dream the impossible dream ~ pull out all the stops ~

OR

Play it safe ~ don't overstep your boundaries ~ don't get your hopes up ~ don't get your heart broken ~

Which rallying cry do you think change-makers, innovators, thought leaders, brave-hearts, use before they head out on their next adventure?  (hint – it ain't the second sentence!)

Where will you get if you want to make a difference in your life and the lives of those you love if you play it safe, don't get your hopes up, don't overstep your boundaries?

How will your world and the world around you change for the better if we think this way?

If we set our sites high – we will ALWAYS get farther than we think and certainly farther than we would have if we set our goals low, safe, within our boundaries.

So play it big, LIFE IS BIG ~ dream with all you've got.

This week's video gives you the call to action to think big in your life – watch it now and get fired up!

I want you to share your biggest goals and dreams with the world ~ you need to make them real, own them, start taking action steps towards realizing them – writing them below in the comments section is your first step!

You’re Per-fekt

spacer

'excellent or complete beyond practical or theoretical improvement' ~ that's a definition of perfect and I believe a perfectly fitting one!

Because we are perfect just as we are.  All of our foibles and idiosyncracies make us unique and therefore perfect. The sooner we realize that the sooner we get on with our lives and understand that each thing we do, each thought we think is the 'perfect' action or thought for that moment in our lives.  There is no other way to have it.

Do you dig me? all you have to do is take action. When you take action you will then see the results of those actions. Then from those results you will learn something, such as 'doing it that way didn't get the result I wanted, I'm going to try it another way'. You see? there is no imperfect thing, or moment. All of our moments are perfect in their own way.

Until very recently I would tell people that I was a 'perfectionist', thinking this was something to be proud of as in ~ yeah, I don't do anything half-assed, I work at it until it's PERFECT. Well, that's all good, but many times that 'waiting until it's perfect' kicked me in the butt and caused me to miss lots of great opportunities, aha! moments and just plain life lessons.

This is what waiting for perfect keeps you from ~

:: trying something new without knowing the outcome

:: experimenting

:: going for it even though it could be a mistake

:: living in the moment

:: manifesting

:: meeting new people no matter where you are, or what you look like, or what you're wearing  ~ you know what I'm talking about ~ "i can't talk to that person, look at what i'm wearing!" PS antidote to that, go out looking great no matter what you're doing even walking the dog!

Our job is to get on with the business of living our lives and taking action.  If you have the 'perfect' hang-up, shift your perception from "i'm not ready, it's not perfect" to "this is the perfect time, i'm ready".

small mental shifts + action = miracles

Watch today's video where I share my big mistake and how I fixed it in 1 day!

Here's the homework for the day ~ shift your perception from it's not perfect to I'm perfectly ready to try this and share the results with me in the comments below!

Can You Throw The Day Away?

These are the words my husband spoke to me after one hell of a day I had recently.  I woke up bright-eyed and bushy tailed, prayed, meditated, made myself a green juice, got caught up on my emails and was ready to film videos for my upcoming posts.  I always film two at a time so I give myself a week where I am not making a video and can focus on other aspects of my business.

I had been filming footage for the film I am making and wanted to transfer that footage from my camera to the hard drive of my computer, not upload it to an editing software.  Every time I tried to do this, and then view the footage to make sure all of it was uploaded before I erased everything on my camera, I kept experiencing issues.  I tried several different ways of dealing with this, googled the subject, called a friend, etc.  I couldn't get it to work.  (I am not the most tech savvy person, so I am sure this is quite easy for some people!).  So I decided to just upload it to my video editing software but I kept getting a message that there were no media files to import.  Ready to pull my hair out, I contacted Sony and had a fantastic, patient technician fix the issues and sort everything out for me.  Well by the time that was completed four hours had gone by and I was pretty worn out emotionally!  Now I had to film two videos??! Oy!

Well as you can imagine, those did not go very well.  I couldn't focus clearly and they just weren't resonating with me. Therefore, I kept having to film take after take and that was just frustrating me even more.  After several hours of that ~ I gave up.  I decided what I needed to do was focus on something else.

I was about to launch my first online program in a few days, so I decided to put the finishing touches on some of the text ~ but my mind was mush, I couldn't write sh*t, I stared blankly at the screen, I had nothing left. So here we are at 8:30 at night and I felt like I had gotten nothing accomplished. I was so frustrated and unable to let it go emotionally.  My saving grace was that I decided to take a bath and share with my husband the frustrating day I had.

Here is where everything changed ~ it's subtle, so pay attention ~ I SHARED my FEELINGS about my frustrating day with my husband.  Did you get that?  I didn't vent to him about every detail of what went wrong and play it over yet again to try to understand it better, or fix it ~ I told him how I was FEELING.  This act immediately started the weight melting off of my shoulders and I began to feel a bit better.  As my bath was running and he LISTENED (also very important component to this cocktail) to me, he then said the most brilliant thing ~

CAN YOU THROW THE DAY AWAY?

I thought about that very deeply ~ I had three days to make another video. I had time to finish writing my program. I had received the help that I needed so everything would be clear for me to start another day ~ YES, I could throw the day away.  This made me feel lighter than a feather, I could breathe again and see the fog lifting! I gave him a kiss and hopped in the bath.

As I was laying there relaxing with my eyes closed, it suddenly hit me ~ that's it, that's the blog post I should be writing ~ Throw The Day Away.  I was so excited, because this subject really resonated with me.  For God's sake I had just lived it!

The next morning I got up, put on some makeup, got the camera set up and whipped out the video in under 10 minutes, because I had thrown away the day, started fresh and was very clear about what I wanted to say.

Click the video to learn more insights into how to handle these moments and then come back and read the recap below!

So to recap the very important points I want you to understand ~

1. If you're pushing, and pushing and it's not happening STOP.  The universe is trying to tell you something ~ listen to it.

2. Share your feelings with someone, don't rehash what happened, share what you feel about what happened.

3. Pass up GOOD for GREAT. Because I had thrown the day away I received an idea for an even better video that resonated with me and I knew would resonate with others.  I passed up good for great.

I know we all have these days, hopefully you'll reflect back on my experience when you next have yours and just throw the day away.

If this resonates with you and you have some tips to share of ways you get back on track ~ please share them in the comments below!

A Little Help From My Friends

We’re strong, we’re warriors – we’ve broken off the golden handcuffs and walked out into the wilderness on our own – we’re pioneers for God’s sake!! Wait a minute – I need what? A compass? (forget maps, those are for wusses), trail gear? lights? food? first-aid kit? – a guide??

Oh! I don’t have any of those things – Um, I didn’t think about that – I was too busy thinking about blazing new trails – you know the zero to 60 kinda version where you commit to your grand path and see that beautiful bright light and verdant vista oh so close?

Um, yeah, that’s awesome and big hugs & kisses to you for taking that monumental step, but you’re gonna need a few things (kinda important ones) to get to wiggle your toes in that lovely green grass waiting for you on the other side. Here’s one thing you’re going to need ~

HELP

Help to me was always a word that I associated with Penelope on the train tracks – tied down and looking with fear in those big baby blues as the train roared down the tracks – getting closer and closer. Snidley Whiplash lurking nearby – with his evil sneer and awesome black moustache. But never fear, Dudley Do-Right – Canadian Mountie riding his trusty steed whisks Penelope off the tracks and saves the day!

All so dramatic and unempowering for us Penelopes – so I chose to be a fortress, a self-sufficient-one- woman band – HELP? I don’t need no stinkin’ help!

Ah yeah – that didn’t go so well.

Instead let’s envision support, guidance, friendship, sharing, giving, mentoring, those are the words that I added to my vocabulary and from a place of power I said – ‘please guide me, share your secrets with me, be my friend, give me advice, mentor me – take me under your wing’.

Because we are not separate, we are one – we need to share our gifts with the world to lift us all up to the next level. As you lift yourself up – reach out your hand to lift another up with you.

Watch this week’s video where I share ways you can ask for help and stay on your path with strength and guidance.

Take that first step, reach out your hand, call a friend – write a mentor.

The Best Holiday Present Ever!

I’m spending the holidays with my family in Florida.  My husband and I came down from New York, my brother and his significant other flew in from California.  This is a rare occasion for us all to be together and I wanted it to be special.  I was thinking yesterday about the post I had planned to put out today and thought, that’s not what I want to say during the holidays.  First I thought, should I even write a post ~ shouldn’t I be spending time with my family?  And I realized exactly what I wanted the post to be about.  Being present – it’s the best ‘present’ you can give yourself and your family during this holiday season.

I can be guilty of being in work mode and thinking about all the things I need to be doing.  But this holiday I thought everyone has made such an effort to be together and I am going to enjoy every moment of it.  I am going to let go of any archaic feelings that I may have associated with various family members over the years and I am going to be present as who I am now ~ and see and relate to them for who they are now.  I know getting families together can dredge up all kinds of feelings ~ some of which are not always pleasant or comfortable.  But if you are coming from a place of love, abundance and being present, the past can’t affect you and you don’t know what the future holds.  All you can do and be is who you are in that moment.  And miraculously, the person relating to you acts in kind.

We always have the best hopes for when we visit with our families ~ we won’t let something Mom says affect us, or the bad jokes that Uncle Bob repeats every year.  Or Aunt Sue who drinks a bit too much and on and on.  If we start from a place of presence and love, we suddenly get different results from people ~ we can share our jokes with Uncle Bob ~ we can offer Aunt Sue some wonderful non-alcoholic drink that we concocted just for her.  When we give of ourselves, people are more than happy to receive.

Because isn’t that what relationships and the holidays are all about?  All we really want (even more than presents) is PRESENCE and LOVE.

Give both of those this season and you will have the most wonderful holiday ever!

Spread the cheer ~

Peace & Presence

10,000 Hours ~ How To Take Consistency From Mundane To Miraculous

I’ve shared in one of my audioclasses that I am a big fan of Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers.  It’s a must read!  In it he shares his insights into the commonalities of some of the most successful people, stating that the most common thread was that they spent 10,000 hours (at a minimum!) honing their craft.  He speaks of everyone from Bill Gates to the Beatles.

I know, I know 10,000 hours seems outrageous, unattainable.  Who has the time??  We do – we all do.  Think about something you do every day – drive. eat. talk to your partner. spend time with your children.  go to work. – I’m sure some of you have tallied close to 10,000 hours doing those things.  Do you do them well?  Do you work hard at them – are you consistent?

Do you share your message consistently with everyone and everything you do.  That is what lies at the heart of consistency.  Not only doing it over and over again, but doing it with passion and with an intent to become better and better at it each time we do it.

I share some thoughts in today’s video on consistency and how you can take it from “mundane” to “miraculous”.  Oh, and don’t miss the killer music video that is linked below (watch after you’ve watched my video, it will be your Aha moment!)

Here’s that killer video I told you about – watch it!  it’s incredible! www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIABTxAAX90

I’m told this incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa.   Amazingly, 97% of the machine’s components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa . Yes, farm equipment!

It took the team a combined 13,029 hours (6.26 years) of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see, it was WELL worth the effort.

It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.

Consistency working its magic!

Hope you are getting some inspiration from my musings, if so and you’ve not yet subscribed, fill out your information below and get a dose of inspiration in your in-box each week!  Can’t see the comment box?  click the title of the post, scroll down and voilá it will appear!

Don’t Play It Safe – EVER!

Hey guys!

So you’ve probably noticed the title of my blog? ~ it’s kinda ballsy ~ in a girlfriends’ heart~to~heart~pep-talk~kinda way and that’s exactly how it was borne.  Out of a conversation with a friend who gave me 3 options ~ from gutsy to PG13 ~ for her latest blog post title.  Without a second thought, I chose the most ballsy title,  because A. it was the best and B. DON’T PLAY IT SAFE – EVER!  I ended the email with  #f❤*kinggoforit!

That’s when I had my own huge Aha! moment.  I realized right then and there that I needed to take my own advice in a big dose (with a green juice chaser), #f❤*kinggoforit! and stop playing it safe!

Playing it safe has been a comforting staple in my life for most of it ~ a safe haven where I could curl up and hide from the “unknown”.  I’ve also had more than a few “go cold turkey” moments with that comforting cloak that envelops me, but suffocates me at the same time. I’ve come to understand that there are two versions of me 1. the do and say the right thing, do what is expected of me version and 2. the ballsy, funny, fearless true believer, that believes anything is possible and if you want something ~ go get it!  (I personally like number 2. waay better).

So here’s how that two-headed monster usually works ~ I decide I want to do something career-wise that I have not done before, with sheer determination and a “passionate” manifesto in hand ~ no one can EVER turn me down.

This is what happens sooner or later ~the safe ~ do the right thing ~ let others lead version of me takes over and I stagnate, get bored, become resentful and then I find a new bright, shiny thing to do and I move on!

Sounding OH so familiar??

Well my confession to you today is Oops!  I did it again!  I put out the ballsy #f❤*kinggoforit! call to action ~ I’ve created the site, put a ton of time, effort, research and love into it AND  (insert drum role here) you guessed it ~ the safe me came out to play ~

The safe posts, the safe videos ~all part of who I genuinely am ~ but not the full-blown, “passion-fueled”, fun, ballsy version of me ~

So I am gonna do something about it and I’m wanting a group of closet SUPER women to join me!

f❤*k New Year’s Resolutions!  (I mean it FUCK ‘em)

This is a call to ACTION

Free To Be ME

Do you know that saying? Free to be you and me? A post-1960′s project spearheaded by the Ms. Foundation, it encouraged that generation’s values of individuality, tolerance and pride in one’s own identity.  It supported that era’s youth who were stepping out of the shadows of their parents’ generation to forge a path of their own that was FREE!  Free to drop out, free to share love, free to rise up against conformity, to have a voice in how they lived their lives and to be proud of who they were.

But what does being free mean? Are we free to follow self-destructive behaviors, or indulge ourselves in every whim, no matter what the outcome? are we then really free?  Does it mean to make decisions that we think are right for us, but unconsciously know they are wrong?

Theologian Henry Nelson Wieman once stated “Freedom is…the ability to will with the whole self”.  To truly be free we need to understand ourselves, to know that when we do find our true selves, only then will we be free to make the choices in our every day lives that will free us from the constraints of our limiting beliefs and allow us to reach the heights of freedom that we all crave.

In my video this week I speak about freedom and ways that you can begin to find its true meaning.

Do you feel free in your current world?  If not, share with me ways you are being held back from finding that freedom for yourself.  Don’t see a comment box at the bottom of this post?  Click on the title of the post, then scroll to the end and comment away!!

Peace & Freedom
