Primordus Visions: Highlights

Today’s PVH is all about World pride, a sort of lasting accomplishment after victory is achieved in WvW. Cres proposed, in his World Wonder thread, that upon victory in the Mists the victor begins construction of a permanent monument, complete with events and activities in the PvE zones. Quickly detailing what is required to make the structure, everything from materials provided by events and gold/karma donated by guilds and players. In addition to these resources, subsequent victories are required to continue construction of the Wonder. There will also be events of monsters and minions attacking the Wonder as it is being built. Those who contribute to it’s building will be memorialized. The layout of the thread is superb and it is easy to find vital pieces of information relevant to the idea. It is also written in relatively plain and easy to understand terms. It has been well recieved thus far with a few issues that I look forward to see ironed out!

The Press Closed Beta is dawning, quickly to be followed by a ramp in invites in the following months. That’s a lot of excitement coming up, made all the sweeter by the certain knowledge that it will be topped by release sometime after. Great time to be an avid GW2 fan, I’d say, but for now we play the waiting game.

Armor of Sexy

Breaking news from the world of Guild Wars 2, our very own co-host and Community Manager at Massively Rubi Bayer took a job at ArenaNet. She moves on to be a part of the community team there. Congratulations to her; it was amazing having her on the show.

However, that’s not the only news this week the most highly anticipated MMO for this year. Guild Wars Insider spoke to developers about PvP in Tyria and showed off Norn Scholar PvP armor. Most importantly, ArenaNet’s Johnathan Sharp explains that “We try to design [the game] around that idea of what makes you want to watch.” This pretty much confirms to the panelist that Guild Wars 2 will definitely be set up for esports and allow other players to watch it in a type of spectator mode. Panelist Elixabeth hopes that there will be a very in-depth spectator mode beyond what Guild Wars currently has.

You won’t play Jedi – plutonka crafted a great article on the infamous “holy trinity.” Guild Wars 2 developers claimed they have done away with this Holy Trinity, but have they? And what does it mean for the game? Read this article for an in-depth analysis of what it all means!

Open Beta-ish

By now, you have caught up on the news that Guild Wars 2 will be sending out beta invites to press in February and to the rest of the world in March and April. Hopefully, GAMEBREAKER is on the short list to receive invites, but what does that mean for you? Well, ArenaNet President Mike O’Brien says that this means that the game will release sometime this year. However, it does not really mean open-beta in March, but it’s Shawn Schuster‘s speculation that it will be similar to the way that BioWare handled the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta: You get a beta key; you get a beta key; everybody gets a beta key! But Shawn’s epic beard disagrees.

Episode #15: Playing to Win

This week we have very little news so we have a short discussion on WvW thanks to some listener feedback. Then we jump into the deep end and try to wrap our heads around competitive play. When is it OK to use an exploit? When is it OK to use something that other people have labeled as “overpowered”? What is greifing? All these questions and more.

• 05:55 – Mailbag: WvW – Is 2 weeks too short?
• 13:20 – Roundtable: Competitive vs. Non-Competitive

The Savage Pride of the Jotun

Written on January 26, 2012 at 12:08 am, by Roun Lyriel

Earlier today another ArenaNet blog post was put up, giving some extensive details on the lore of the Jotun, including bits on their religion, society, and behind-the-scenes design. Definitely an interesting read if you’re into lore, so make sure to check it out!

The jotun (pronounced JŌ-tun) are the last remnants of an ancient society of giants. Once powerful, advanced, and arrogant, they proclaimed themselves rulers of the Shiverpeak Mountains and raised great monuments to themselves on the highest peaks. Their leaders, known as giant-kings, were tremendously powerful beings, as skilled in feats of strength as they were in magic and lore.
