Why do people do this?

By Leah

I am really curious to hear what you think about something.

So, last week I was having an awesome conversation with Pace Smith of the Freak Revolution about living your kick-ass dream life and being awesome, and we got off onto a tangent about this crazy statistic that says the vast majority of people need to have something really bad happen in order for them to do something about improving their lives.

This drives me crazy!!!

Why does the shit have to hit the fan before someone will take the time to focus on what would make their lives better?

It seems to me that it would be so much easier and life would get kick-ass really fast, if you spent your time fine tuning and focusing on the things that would make your life even cooler, rather than waiting until things are crappy and you have to do something to fix it.

But, that doesn’t seem to be the case for the majority of people.

I wonder why?

What are your thoughts about this?

Share your thoughts in the comments below.
BTW….you can listen into this conversation that Pace and I were having  by clicking here. We recorded it for you.

Right on Leah.
Unfortunately most people are motivated by pain.

How to have them move towards desire takes some really great coaching!

This is unfortunately so true…I think us positive people need to spread the word so we can hopefully encourage and inspire people to live the life they are dreaming of spacer

Thanks Leah!!

Leah – My first visit to your blog. (Thank you Lisa Benavidez.)

I’m living proof of what you’ve written about today. I won’t bore you with the details, but I think it’s partly human nature to consciously or unconsciously hope for the best, even though the world may be crumbling around them. I also think fear plays into the equation. Fear of the unknown, fear of failing/succeeding, fear of being wrong, etc. We all have our top pain thresholds and for some of us, it takes tripping over that point to finally take action – and hope it’s not too late.

Thanks for the thought-provoking question.

(And, sorry to drive you crazy with this behavior.) spacer

Hi Lizbeth,

I hear what you are saying, and I’ve had my share of instances of waiting until I was forced to do something about a problem before I addressed it because I was scared to make changes.

And you don’t really drive me crazy spacer ….

But, it seems like we make it so much more difficult on ourselves when we do that…..and we tend to buy into the idea that that is just the way it is…so we live inside of it our whole lives.

I don’t even think it’s really about being positive…but rather it’s about empowering yourself to go for kick-ass and not tolerating the stuff the sucks.

Hi Therese….thanks for chiming in.

I get that people are motivated by pain, but I would be curious to learn where that comes from…..where do we learn that in the first place and how do you undo it?

Actually…I know how to undo it with some great coaching spacer

You are so right Leah! However as a a few have already said, people are motivated by pain…we tend to not realize that the shit is hitting the fan till it passes through the bars of teh fan and flings all over us…we are addicted to being firefighters and do not know how to stop the fires of life once and for all…it seems that we have no or little time to focus on the important items that would make our lives kick ass when we are running around with our fire hoses. But at some point we have to STOP and say enough is enough, we need to focus on the light and not the darkness, be proactive and not worry so dang much about the smoke. Find the door and walk out into the freedome of the kiss ass life!

Renate Schooler…..thanks for sharing your thoughts.

You get my point with all this…..people are addicted to being firefighters…looking for fires to put out is all consuming. And there is a choice that can be made to say ENOUGH and stop the madness.

It is important to learn to shift your focus from the “problems” and focus on what works for you and bring joy and satisfaction to your life.

It is possible to shift this and “walk out into the freedom of the kiss ass life!” (I love the “Kiss ass” instead of Kick-ass.)

Interesting that you brought this topic up. Many people do have to have something to push them over the edge to want to change. You being the Pluto driven Scorpio, its inherent in your makeup that you want to shift things around to make them work for you —- not everyone has that in them and therefore they need something to happen to make them shift things up and go in a different direction. Usually its a Pluto or Saturn transit.

This is what I love about astrology, it can teach you so much about yourself and others that you would be scratching your head about otherwise..

XOXOX Keep the movement going sister!
Love, Star

Hey Star!

Thanks for that explanation! I am curious what other signs are Pulto driven and are more inclined to shift things around to work for them.

I would love to chat about this sometime!

Thank you Leah! Funny, I think my ‘kiss ass’ comment was a typo, but it works in the point…lol

The point is the point: that we all seem to be emergency assistant crews in our own lives, on call 24/7! By the time we finish our daily rounds we discover we have no time left for the important things in life.

These fires that seem to be the mother of all crises are really only an illusion, brought on by own fear of success and our true selves. It is high time we embrace life and our souls and have a kick ass life!

I love all your posts Leah! Your awesome!
