Math is a critical skill in today’s society, yet it is consistently taught very poorly. To fight this trend, a cottage industry of tutors has sprang up, along with a lot of cool free internet schools. A popular way to advertise your tutoring services is through the use of a public, physical bulletin board. Unfortunately, such bulletin boards can be used to play jokes as well as inform. (There’s also a hugely popular internet meme, as seen here, of creating fake postings, taking pictures of them, then posting the pictures online.

These jokes suck, don’t they? Who wrote this, a mentally-damaged speak-and-spell? Your grandmother could do better, right? Well, dagnabbit, get granny online and let her prove herself! Add your own funny stuff responding to our lead caption “Math Problems?”

For those of you who might be new to English or don’t follow the joke, the term “bill” has many meanings. It commonly means “an amount of money owed, set out in written form.” So your telephone company each month makes a bill and mails it to you. But it also can be the beak of a bird — ducks have bills, much to the amusement of punsters everywhere. It can mean a type of medieval weapon that has a big, gnarly hook on the end. “Bill” is the shortened name of “William,” which, combined with the final definition of bill, a poster, gives us the pun we have before us.

I loved watching the old Battlestar Galactica shows, what a campy series with a bunch of corny scripting. But it was a hoot. Those were different days, and TV shows weren’t expected to be realistic, edgy and gritty.

Because of that, I also liked the new series a lot — very dark and all of the characters were seriously flawed, which made for lots of heated drama. I also liked the fact that the new series actually had a beginning and end. A multi-year TV show that actually ended! Very rare today. Babylon V comes to mind as one, but there weren’t many.

But the old BSG was a hoot, and I’d like to see all those old shows again sometime. Wonder if they’re on DVD anywhere? (Google. Google.) Here it is. Also, if you’re looking for the complete new BSG series on BluRay, here it is (for only 150 bucks or so, might be a good deal.) I wish I had waited for this. I have bought a couple of the seasons at BestBuy for 30 bucks or so, but I’m missing a couple of seasons also. And one of my season boxes is just regular DVD, not BluRay. Now I have to decide whether to buy the entire thing as one box, or pick and choose the other pieces.
