My name is Tyler Fonda and I'm thinking, reading, listening and looking. This blog is the output of those inputs.
“In the world of plenty, the only currency is attention and attention is what defines “media.”

“I talked to them about writing, the importance of taking the time every day to put words down “on paper” and how that forces you to think crisply and clearly.”
Fred Wilson
I continue to wrestle with how I structure my writing to maximize its benefit to my thinking. For the past few years I’ve been writing quick responses to stimuli that encountered, namely text. That has resulted in some poor writing. It has also resulted in interesting discussions with my friends and readers, who have been kind enough to shrug off my miserable grammar.
This year in response to the project I’m building with Irwin and Elliott I’m going to alter my publishing philosophy. I will continue to post pictures, video and music with very limited commentary.
Alongside these cultural briefings will be more thoughtful (ie, better grammar) posts about the intersection points between our digital and physical cultures. In particular where digital and physical interact when it comes to published content. May take a few weeks for me to get into the swing.

The record is not over yet

“Consider the record labels’ plunging sales since the music-sharing service Napster made large-scale piracy easy a decade ago. Album sales, including digital singles added up into album equivalents, fell from 755 million in 1999 to 458 million last year, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The top album in 1999, “Millennium” by the Backstreet Boys, sold 9.4 million copies. The top 2011 album, Adele’s “21,” sold 5.8 million.”
Perpetual War - Digital Pirates and Creators
Eduardo and his supporters need to explain why the status quo must be maintained. Help us understand why we an expectation of linear consistent growth is a legal right. Why content creation as defined by an industry, rather than by those that consume that product is the standard that we must abide by.
Creativity as defined and monopolized by publishers of the industrial age has no right on the future. Piracy is simply a temporary route around inefficient distribution mechanisms that privilege a few.
Finally, the best creative is coming out of places totally unaffiliated with traditional creative production. It would appear that this new creative distribution system is not killing off creative production in any way.
65 year old helicopter parents do not make the future better. Please stop old dudes, you’re not helping your kids. Thanks.

A fellow New Trier grad and a cultural fire starter. Worth listening to the entirety of this seminal album. In the meantime enjoy.

“Silicon Valley’s dirty little secret is that the startup boom is mostly a disguised jobs fair that directly benefits the big corporations.”

Nailed it. Also a reflection of the hypercompetitiveness of the job market and why there’s so little loyalty among millenials.
Globalization. Arab culture coming to America. A clear indicator that America is no longer the key market for music. Good song, but an absolutely fascinating and provocative video. A must watch and a must ponder

M.I.A. shows the world once more why she is Queen of Bad Girls. The video for Bad Girls was directed by Romain Gavras, shot in Morocco, features tons of car tricks, explosions and other bad things you expect to happen in a M.I.A. video. Bad girls do it well!
