Welcome to this open, uncluttered, unhasty space, which I use to publish my work on a variety of subjects, especially those of The Wisdom Project. Over the years The Wisdom Project has delved into many areas but in recent years it surrounds my work on international relations and foreign policy. And there’s plenty more on the site, ranging from theology to politics to the arts to book reviews…, well to pretty much wherever I have roamed or been commissioned to write. I have also included many in-depth interviews on a variety of topics with fascinating people, and my blog.

The Wisdom Project is what I call my current work on international relations and foreign policy, but the agency of wisdom itself has occupied my mind and work for years. Strangely, it began to capture my imagination decades ago, when I didn’t even recognize it for what it is, as vital for human flourishing. By the late-1970s, I found myself beginning to explore the historic wisdom literature and gaining insight into this “lost” tradition.

You will find many of my articles, columns, essays, reviews, and interviews in this section of the site. Most were commissioned or appeared in Openings. Some deal with topics other than those of my current work on wisdom-based international relations, and I have also included some unpublished material. The content is separated broadly by subject matter, but because so much of what I do forges links and connections between topics, many of these pieces touch on more than one subject. So, for instance, some articles under Thinking Wisdom are knitted to international relations. Please explore at your leisure.
