Valentine’s Day Styling for Each Girl

February 9th, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

With Valentine’s Day just a week away, we got to thinking about our different fp girls and how they’d style their Valentine’s Day outfits and spend their evening! We asked five girls from around the office who embody Molly, Ginger, Candy, Meadow and Lou to be our models for some Valentine styling and imagined what their ideal night might hold…

Molly

Wearing: Seamless Crochet Crop Top, Printed Romper, Marrakesh Floppy Hat, Quilted Crossbody, and floral saddle shoes coming soon!

Molly’s perfect date night would start with a screening of one of her favorite old movies, followed by a quiet, romantic dinner at a little french bistro.  After a couple of old fashioneds, they’d finish the night sharing a sundae at an ice cream shop like Franklin Fountain!

Ginger

Wearing: Glam Life Dress, Archduchess Platform,  Studded Bangle Set.

Ginger’s evening would start with a nice dinner and some red wine, and then it’s out for a night of dancing with her date!

Candy

Wearing: La Boheme Ruffle Dress, Mulberry Rose Crown, Russian Doll Fringe Bracelet, Half Moon Clog.

Candy would enjoy spending her night in cooking a nice dinner with her sweetie, after which they’d go for a moonlit stroll and stop at a bakery for some sweet treats!

Meadow

Wearing: Crochet Short Sleeve Tiered Dress, Platforms, Janie Fringe Satchel.

Meadow’s ideal date night would start with seeing one of her favorite bands in concert, followed by a late dinner at her favorite organic restaurant.

Lou

Wearing: High Waisted Pleated Linen Pant, Vegan Leather Bustier, Converse, Jenny Floppy Hat, Dynasty Leather Cuff,  Studded Satchel.

Laid-back Lou doesn’t like a big fuss for Valentine’s Day – she’d rather spend the night chilling with her date at the bar – preferably a sports bar so they don’t miss the game!

Abigail is wearing the Large Flower Pin :)

Which girl do you relate to most? How are you spending your Valentine’s Day?

Kicking off NYFW at the IFB conference

February 8th, 2012 / Posted by fp jemma / Permalink

Today I’m at the independent fashion bloggers conference (IFB) where a community of fashion bloggers share their experiences. A panel of influential blogging experts such as Bryan Boy, Cupcakes and Cashmere, DKNY PR girl and others talk about their traits and why they love what they do. As you can expect from a group of bloggers from New York City the fashion here is quite something, Neon and Jewels are definitely hot topic!

DIY Valentine’s: Handmade Love

February 8th, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

Our Handmade Love event is this Saturday! Make sure you check out your local store’s facebook page (a full list can be found here) to find out what DIY Valentine craft they’ll be making – and stop by on Saturday to make something special for your friend/loved one and pick up an outfit for your night :)

Each store will be doing one of the following crafts, and I put together tutorials for each one – so if you can’t make it out to our event, or don’t have a local store, here are four great DIY Valentines that are sure to warm any heart!

DIY Embroidered Cards

What you need: paper, needle, thread, scissors, envelopes (optional)

I found this raw edged paper at my local crafts store, and used some dark red embroidery thread and  a regular sewing needle.

I free-handed the hearts, but here’s a useful tip – if you want to write something, or make sure your heart is done perfectly, use pencil on the back and follow the pencil lines as you sew.

Aren’t they sweet? You could also embroider the envelopes you put them in.

DIY Unraveling Letter

Inspired by this project.

What you need: wooden spools, letter stamps, ink, ribbon or fabric – I found all of the above at AC Moore.

Cut your length of ribbon (you could also wait until after you stamp it, to be sure you have enough room).

Use the stamps to write out your desired message or quote, tape or glue the end of the ribbon (where the quote/message ends) to the spool, and wind!

DIY Fabric Scrap Gift Tags

This project was inspired by Creature Comforts blog – and you can download the manila tags and word template over there as well.

For sturdier tags, print the manila tags on card stock. Then simply cut your piece of fabric and word/phrase of choice, glue them on and you’ve got a personalized gift tag to make your present extra special.

DIY Mini Book

The last project was inspired by one of our Love Letter submissions. Make your best friend or loved one a mini hand-stitched book full of quotes, photos and memories :)

What you need: Various pieces of paper (again, I got this paper at my local craft store), a needle and thread, glue, scissors, and photos and other embellishments of your choosing!

Stack up your pages in the order you want them, and stitch them together along one side. The paper I used was kinda thick, so I had to poke the needle through some of the sheets one at a time, but it wasn’t too difficult. Once you have your book sewn together, you can start adding photos and quotes and other fun stuff :)

I had so much fun making this – I want to start making them for friends and family as birthday cards!

I hope you guys are feeling inspired! Now check out our website for a rundown of all the stores and what projects they’ll be doing, as well as other activities, and from there you can RSVP for the event of your choice!

We’d love for you to live tweet the action and any pictures accompanied by the hashtag #FPHandMadeLove -  tweet us links of your posts about the event accompanied with the #FPHandMadeLove hashtag, and we’ll be compiling images and links to the posts we love and recapping them here on the blog the week after the event!

A New Free People Girl: Meet Molly

February 8th, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

Molly has that classic retro look – it’s preppy and sophisticated but in a cool modern way. She takes signature styles and makes them fresh again; her clothes have details such as tipping and pleating and she loves the Peter Pan collar like no other. She’s reserved but her personality exudes confidence… you’ll see her walking elegantly in a city, perched in an old library or quietly sitting in a coffee shop soaking in her thoughts.

Molly is our new style girl who was inspired by the retro things in life; she gives vintage a modern twist! To celebrate Molly’s debut online and in our catalog, we did a special photo shoot featuring FP Jemma, who embodied Molly perfectly – we want to thank the lovely people at One Shot coffee shop in Philly for letting us take photos, be sure to check out their place it’s pretty great – a wonderful atmosphere and delicious food and coffee!

In this look: Denim Bustier Dress, Sweet Spring Gingham Buttondown, Radio BBC Boot.

In this look: Vintage Thrift Wash Straight Leg Denim, Peter Pan Lace Top, Hardware Loafer.

In this look: Printed Romper, Traveler Denim Jacket, Studded Saddle Shoe.

Check out our Molly Shop for more retro styles!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on our newest girl! Are you a Molly?
