THE FILMMAKERS

Transcendental Media (Production Company) aims to “agitate the sleep of mankind” by producing stimulating feature-length films that challenge our worldviews. TM’s last documentary “The Philosopher Kings” explores the lives of university janitors. The film world-premiered to sold-out audiences at the 2009 AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Film Festival, opened theatrically in Los Angeles May 2010, and premiered on The Documentary Channel Sept 2010. TM became nationally recognized in 2005 with its critically acclaimed 7-time best documentary winner “Flight From Death: The Quest For Immortality”. Narrated by Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne, “Flight From Death” uncovers death anxiety as a possible root cause of many of our behaviors on a psychological, spiritual, and cultural level. All TM films are now available on Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, and on DVD.

Patrick Shen (Director/Producer/Editor) is a multiple award-winning director and founder of Transcendental Media. Before directing and producing feature films Patrick produced over a dozen films for non-profit organizations, worked on various Emmy-award winning TV shows at E! Networks and ESPN, and served as 2nd Unit Director on the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary “We Served With Pride” which earned him an invite to the White House to meet with President Clinton. Patrick served as director, producer, and editor on TM releases “Flight from Death”, “The Philosopher Kings”, and the soon-to-be-released “La Source”.

Greg Bennick (Producer) is the multi award-winning creative mind responsible for a number of critically-acclaimed projects which explore the human experience. As co-producer and co-writer, Greg’s first film was “Flight from Death: The Quest For Immortality”, a seven-time ‘Best Documentary’ award-winning film narrated by Gabriel Byrne (HBO’s In Treatment, The Usual Suspects, Vanity Fair) which uncovers death anxiety as a possible root cause of many of our violent and aggressive behaviors. Flight From Death has been screened throughout the world and is currently used in over a hundred colleges and universities as a means of initiating discussions on aggression and how to curb violence worldwide. Greg is currently at work on a trilogy of films which explore the potential of people in numerous countries to endure, process, and survive experiences of overwhelming suffering.
