Open Source Zanby Announcement

Zanby converts to open source

As of May 13, 2011, we are releasing the code for our community software platform, the Zanby Enterprise Group Family System, under a GPLv3 license. We are also launching a community to encourage software developers to collaborate with us to evolve and improve the Zanby codebase. We hope you will join us.

Zanby’s business approach, products, and strategy for change are built on the belief that collaboration is a market imperative. As our global problems and opportunities expand in scope to include almost anyone on the planet, the need to collaborate effectively locally and globally, across geography, culture, and organizational and societal boundaries will become ever more urgent. We urgently need to collaborate better and we need to get better at the technology and scale of collaboration.

Our evolution towards an open source model is a by-product of our work fostering collaboration and engagement in activism, local government, coworking and media. Zanby’s group-of-group’s architecture was born out of community organizing. Software designed specifically to solve group-of-groups collaboration problems combined with best of breed community organizing will accelerate the creation and adoption of sustainable lifestyles. The best way we can think of to drive wider adoption of this approach is to give it away and invite the open-source community to collaborate with us to make it better.

While we will no longer charge license fees, we will continue to provide hosting, customization, and strategy services around the Zanby software and our groups-of-groups approach to solving collaboration problems.

We invite you to join us in our journey to solve the most difficult collaboration problems in the world.
