Can you identify this iPhone thief?

by Sebastien on Feb 9, 2012

This video was taken by a man who witnessed another man stealing an iPhone from a backpack left behind on a London train. The thief had the balls to open up the bag and steal the iPhone from it in front of everyone, which enraged our amateur cameraman.

After arguing back and forth for a few minutes, the thief just grabs his bicycle and leaves the train, as if nothing had happened… Read More

Amazon goes on the offensive with new Kindle Fire ad

by Oliver Haslam on Feb 9, 2012

Amazon has gone on the offensive in the company’s battle for tablet supremacy by taking a price-powered swipe at its only real competition – the iPad.

The ad, which follows similar Kindle ads we have seen by showing a young lady in a bikini reading a book, shows both the new Kindle e-reader and the Android-powered Kindle Fire in use, while taking a stab at the iPad’s lofty price.

Needless to say Amazon’s iPad alternatives come up trumps in the new 30-second spot, with one poor chap finding himself shot down in more than one way when he approaches the woman in question… Read More

i4Siri: a promising 3rd party Siri server

by Jeff Benjamin on Feb 9, 2012

Ever since the possibility of a Siri Proxy server was first unveiled, it’s been all the rage. The promise of being able to run Siri on older devices? Count me and about a million other people in.

Now you can hardly look around without seeing some blurb about a 3rd party Siri server, and although security (or lack thereof) is still a big concern, it’s apparently not concerning enough to keep the masses of pre-iPhone 4S owners away.

Andrew Sheridan, one of the primary folks behind the i4Siri project reached out to me about a month ago asking me to try his Siri server. Here are some of the results of that trial… Read More

Apple stock reaching new heights, now worth more than Google and Microsoft combined

It sure is a good time to be an Apple investor. After reaching new records a couple weeks ago, the stock hasn’t stopped going up ever since. AAPL is currently trading at about $495, which is an absolute record.

As 9to5Mac notes, at its current $460 billion market capitalization, Apple is worth more than 10% of all NASDAQ combined. More impressive maybe is that Apple is worth 52 times RIM’s value, more than 5 times Amazon’s, more than twice the value of Google, and almost double the size of Microsoft. Heck, Apple is worth more than Google and Microsoft combined! Read More

Apple set to announce iPad 3 first week in March

by Oliver Haslam on Feb 9, 2012

We’re undoubtedly nearing the announcement of whatever Apple has up its sleeve for the next generation iPad, and now new claims suggest we’re just a few short weeks away from the big day.

John Paczkowski of AllThingsD now believes that Apple will hold a press event first week in March, with the iPad 3/iPad 2S/iPad Super Epic Edition being made available for purchase soon after. If the iPad 2 release is any kind of indicator, we wouldn’t expect to have to wait any longer than two weeks from the announcement before queuing up to buy one.

As is always the case, Apple refused to comment on the speculation, though it is an open secret that the next generation iPad is very much on the horizon… Read More

When iOS 5 launched last Fall, we figured that the Notification Center would become the new hot bed for jailbreak tweaks. But it seems like Siri has also become a popular choice among developers.

The latest package to surface in Cydia that adds functionality to the digital assistant is TweetLine. The tweak allows you to use Siri to call up the 5 most recent tweets from your Twitter timeline… Read More

It seems like it’s been raining iPad 3 rumors over the past couple of days. Yesterday we heard that the upcoming tablet may not include the quad-core processor we’ve been anticipating. And we also saw a purported image of the slate’s backing.

Then last night, both 9to5Mac and Apple.pro posted photos of what they claim to be next-generation iPad components. The pictures show both the front and the back of the tablet’s shell, as well as what appears to be Smart Cover magnets… Read More

Foxconn, Apple’s largest manufacturing partner, has been back in the media spotlight over the last few weeks. Last month, the New York Times pointed to the company in its report on the poor working conditions in Chinese factories.

Foxconn has since been the target of activists and protestors, but now it’s found itself in the sights of a different breed. It seems that the world’s largest component manufacturer has been hacked by a new group called Swagg Security… Read More
