How to Update the Banner Image

Posted on | October 27, 2009 | 47 Comments

I get a lot of questions about adjusting the banner image and I figured it was time for me to write a post about it.

The easiest way to change it is to upload a new image into the theme images folder with the same name as the existing banners. If you don’t change the height, then that’s all you need to do. If you look in the images folder for the theme, you’ll see the images listed below.

The only thing you want to watch out for is if you have to change the dimensions of the image. Height is ok to change, but changing the width is going to give you problems. If you need to change the height, you’ll need to modify the CSS. Look for this:

#banner { "images/banner.jpg") no-repeat; px; }

#banner1 { "images/banner1.jpg") no-repeat; px; }

#banner2 { "images/banner2.jpg") no-repeat; px; }

Just change the height to whatever your new image is.

That should get you all squared away.

Those Darn Widgets

Posted on | August 27, 2008 | 103 Comments

A lot of people have been downloading my Elements of SEO theme lately and I am very excited about all of the kind remarks I’ve been getting.

It has also come to my attention that when people are using various widgets in the theme the sidebars tend to get a little messed up. There appears to be two main problems that I’ll try and describe, just in case you run across the same problem.

Theme Update

Posted on | July 30, 2008 | 45 Comments

Now that Elements of SEO has been out in the wild for a little while I have been able to see how others have used it. One thing that I immediately noticed was when people implemented various widgets; a bullet would appear next to the heading.

I didn’t like how that looked so I decided to get rid of it. Now you can add as many widgets as you like and they will always look just like this demo site.

When I submitted this theme to the Wordpress Directory I had to add a few more features that would comply with the WP 2.5 standards. Here they are:

Download Elements of SEO 1.2 to get the new features and fix the widget heading bug.

With some blockquotes too of course…

Aliquam pharetra. Nulla in tellus eget odio sagittis blandit. Maecenas at nisl. Aenean quis risus sit amet eros volutpat ullamcorper. Ut a mi. Etiam nulla. Mauris interdum.

and a suggestion by Steve Cooley for a blockquote within a blockquote:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Quisque sed felis. Aliquam sit amet felis. Mauris semper, velit semper laoreet dictum, quam diam dictum urna, nec placerat elit nisl in quam. Etiam augue pede, molestie eget, rhoncus at, convallis ut, eros. Aliquam pharetra.

This is a blockquote within a blockquote

Nulla in tellus eget odio sagittis blandit. Maecenas at nisl. Nullam lorem mi, eleifend a, fringilla vel, semper at, ligula. Mauris eu wisi.
