Snowfall Comes to June Lake and June Mt.

dan Monday, January 23 2012 @ 11:26 AM PST

Long-awaited storms arrived January 21-23, 2012, bringing the June Mountain snowpack up to rideable levels, and simultaneously providing us with the first "powder day" of the season.

As you know, June Mountain is famous for the availability of great powder snow after it storms. Chair 7 opened at about 9:45 on Monday morning with adequate snow for great powder riding on most all of its terrain, except for Bankers and Pro Bowl.

June Mountain opened as scheduled on December 17, 2011: however, this season brought little to no snowfall during the first weeks, and skiing and snowboarding had up to now been on Chair 2 only, with limited terrain with man-made snow. All services have been open, including rentals, sport shop, cafe, bar and sports school.

It has been a long wait for adequate snow to bring June Mountain into normal operation this season, but the wait is now over. Come take advantage of the great snow and terrain on friendly, uncrowded slopes, at June Mountain!

Not Much Snow, But Many Natural Activities

Friday, January 20 2012 @ 08:44 PM PST

Contributed by: dan

spacer The latest Holiday season occurred during one of the most dry Decembers on record for the Eastern Sierra. Even the highest local mountain peaks have been barren of snow. While June Mountain opened with artificial snow on Mambo, operating chair 1 for access to the Chalet area, and chair 2 for skiing and snowboarding, the absence of early season snowpack made way for a variety of other activities that would not otherwise have been enjoyed. Trails were open for hiking. Skating was available on local lakes, including Silver and Gull. Tioga Pass remained open until mid-January 2012, resulting not only in a rare opportunity to visit the high country by road, but in an unexpected influx of winter visitors from the West Side of the Sierra. The Skiing and Snowboarding? Although the terrain was limited, all of those who have frequented the mountain agree on the quality and grooming of the man-made snow, and at June Mountain's reduced ticket rate it is a good value. The Cafe, Bar, Rentals, Retail Shop, and Sports School have remained in full operation. Thank you to all who visited and enjoyed June Lake and surrounding areas during the early winter season 2011-2012.spacer

National Trails Day Brings Volunteers for Trail Crew

dan Tuesday, June 08 2010 @ 12:39 PM PDT
On June 5, National Trails Day, the June Lake Loop Trails subcommittee in conjunction with the Friends of the Inyo and the Inyo National Forest, conducted a volunteer trail crew event for the Gull Lake area.
The Gull Lake Trail Plan, recently adopted by the County of Mono, calls for a set of trails which encircle Gull Lake and will assist in giving pedestrians and hikers alternative routes from the June Lake Village to areas further down canyon, without having to walk along Highway 158. The trails are also design to eventually connect with the proposed "Rodeo Grounds" development area.
