Change Creation

Change Creation is a call to action that tackles the following questions:

How are our creations sparking radical change, right now? (And why isn’t anyone talking about it?)

& How can we take advantage of our genius?

”I just read Change Creation and you had me alternately cheering and moved to tears.” -@PaceSmith

“No surprises this book has come into my hands, as I’ve been going through my own creative revolution of late. But I cannot stress how important it was for me to read [Change Creation]. I wish I read it 10 years ago and am so fucking grateful I read it today.” -@MykelDixon

“I’ve been so inspired to get my projects MOVING! I’m having epiphanies by the minute as I read!” – @AshleyJorn

Begun as a philosophy thesis written in art school, the concepts quickly spiraled into a full-fledged book that I released in April 2011. It’s dedicated to anyone ambitious who want to know how the creative layman can tackle our world’s biggest social problems.

Contained within its pages is my singular vision for genuine revolution: Why I believe change is more possible for us now than ever before, substantiated by my own fashion design experiments, an unconventional marketing lens, and my experience working as a changemaker on the Internet.

The book is currently offline for re-alignment. Here’s an excerpt (all content © Tessa Zeng):

Charity campaigns. You know the drill:

Photos of orphans with dirt-smudged faces. Video clips of ransacked coun- trysides. A doe-eyed delegate from the cutest endangered species the email newsletter writer could find.

Two seconds later, I click ‘Delete.’ Put bluntly, these visuals have lost their propensity to provoke.

But fortunately for nonprofits, I already know my empathy, because I grew up reading historical fantasy novels.

“When we are forced to accept certain qualities of a new world as true, we are challenged to change our perspective of what it means to be human.” -Dan Zubryzcki

A stellar fictive world knocks me straight into the battlefield of humanity. Pages full of pain and wonder seize my sympathies, and high-conflict scenarios lead me to struggle, at times, with my own ethics and beliefs.

Every time I read, I emerge from the artificial struggles with real feelings about the human condition.

Hence, if I ran one of those charity organizations, I’d take a literal page out of Guy Gavriel Kay’s Tigana, and permanently affix it to the blog header.

Seriously though, nonprofits are simply making the same mistake we’ve all made in our own work:

We’re expecting people to already care. And if they don’t, then we’ve lost them.

Wait, you mean, we have to get people to care first?

Yup.

By creating an entire new… world?

Indeed. For many of us, we’re looking at a need for serious innovation and new strategy. Daunting, I know.

But why wait for someone else to light the world on fire?

Give me vision or give me death! (Why the 99% won't get what they want in the long run.)

P.S. Your Art Is Changing Someone's Life

This is my perception of reality.
