spacer CULTIVATING MOJO

I’m a designer, explorer, and all-around curious gal. I woke up about 1 year ago and didn’t recognize myself. Where had that girl gone? My body was exhausted and my mind was screaming at me to do something about it. I realized somewhere along the line I grew tired, burned out, and my pants were tight. This kind of snuck up on me because I was so not conscious of what I wanted or where I was going. Bad combo. Bad mojo.

At that moment I decided to get back to the curious explorer in me. I was going to try new things and finally lose the weight. I so desperately wanted to fall in love with myself and fit back into my skinny jeans. I dared to cultivate my mojo. Marla Mojo. It was gone, and I wanted it back. This meant adding healthy habits and rituals to my life.

I dared to lose 25 lbs.

I envisioned the weight gone and it looked sweet. I thought about my skinny jeans and the closet I would finally clean out. I started my plan with the Beach Body 60 Day Insanity workout. Whoa! It’s an insane workout for reals. I love the plyometric moves in these workouts. This was the first at-home workout I have ever done that leaves me really sweaty. It makes me feel like I am making progress.

I dared to get through a 60 Day Bikram Yoga Challenge.

This did wonders for my mental health. I work from home so 90 minutes a day of intense yoga helped me to stay active, sweat and meditate. A trifecta of all things good.

I dared to eat 30 days of raw food.

Oh yea I went there. This has changed my life the most. It was pure magic. I feel lighter, and my mind is clear. I have a newfound love affair with raw foods. I’m not big on time in the kitchen, so to me eating 100% raw food fit perfectly into my lifestyle.

Check out this easy peasy “ice cream” recipe I make for a treat in the evening. It’s just one of my favorite recipes that has helped me change my life.

spacer Banana Ice Cream – Vegan Style
1 organic banana
1 organic strawberry
1 pinch of cinnamon
½ teaspoon of raw agave nectar
Sprinkle cocoa powder to taste

Let the banana thaw out for about 10 minutes. Add the banana, cinnamon, agave nectar, and cocoa powder into a high-speed blender, or food processor and blend.

This blending will need to be done a few short times because of the frozenness of it all. It gets stuck to sides of my Vitamix. I use a plastic spoon to scoop the ingredients to the center of the blender and power it up again. It’s a quick process, and the result is very tasty and healthy.

Garnish with the strawberry. Yum.

Great post Marla. I’ve experienced that waking up and looking at myself with disgust and despair all too often. Interestingly I’ve embarked on all 3 dares as well. Bikram Yoga was the most mentally and physically rewarding. Raw foods was spiritually awarding and I’ve since incorporated it into my regular diet. Insanity was ….well…Insane but it works! Thanks for sharing and all the best towards your journey.
