Evolvex Pop-Up Shop

Furniture to sustain your world, and that bigger one too

spacer

Two weeks ago, IKEA opened their megastore in Tempe, the largest blue and yellow maze in the Southern Hemisphere. And while no-one would blame you for being tempted by the $10 tables and the $1 hotdogs, there’s something that might convince you to turn the car towards Darlinghurst, or better still, not take a car at all.

It’s the pop-up shop from Evolvex, a fleeting in-situ glimpse of sustainable, formaldehyde-free – and most importantly, stylishly modern – furniture that you will otherwise only be able to admire via the just-launched online store.

Until Sunday you can ogle and fondle the stackable, customisable modules that could very well combine to make your dream piece of domestic swag. A cube cabinet hanging on the wall can be used as a stool, or added to your new bookshelf. A special feature for the pop-up lets you scan furniture codes with the QR (2D barcode) reader on your phone, making for a simple ordering process that delivers to your door – no car required.

If you’re serious about the creative side of things (or happen to miss the pop-up shop), the website has a great design-your-own application. Customise everything from the size and shape down to door placement and the colour of individual shelves, then get a 3D rendering to save online or share with friends on Facebook.

There are plenty of good reasons to buy Evolvex: it’s family-run, Australian-owned and better for the environment. But despite the altruism, we’ve discovered our interest in Evolvex is embarrassingly superficial – it looks nice and we want.
