About Miss

spacer Hey Y’all! My name is Milisa, but most call me Miss.  I live in beautiful Wyoming, near the Big Horn Mountains with my husband and three boys on our cattle ranch.

I love my family, I love to cook and I love to read.  Growing up in the south, my family owned a restaurant.  Needless to say I was surrounded by good food, of course I was too picky to enjoy very much of it!  My how things have changed.

I learned to cook from my Mom, my Mother-in-law, from studying stacks of cookbooks and of course Food Network.  I spent several years cooking for cowboys on a ranch, some days feeding upwards of 30 mouths. These days I mostly cook for my husband and the boys, two teenagers and our little fellow who is in first grade.  I guess you might say the portions are not too much smaller with two teenage boys in the house!

About 10 years ago I started my own barbecue sauce business that I later sold and it is still thriving today.  I really missed the creativity and connection with people that came with a food business, so I started Miss in the Kitchen in February 2010.  I really enjoy developing new recipes and I continue to learn more about food photography.

Recently I entered and won my first recipe contest and it was so much fun!   I was chosen to participate in the One-Pot Blogging Cooking Party to promote Emeril’s Sizzling Skillets and Other One-Pot Wonders cookbook and I was also chosen as the top participant.  I  also came in runner up in the Nestle’s Holiday Cookie Contest.

I’m glad you found Miss in the Kitchen and I hope you will continue to come back.  I love reading your comments so feel free to drop a line on your favorite posts!

Thanks for stopping by!

I will be trying some of your recipes. I just discovered your blog today. I just told my oldest the story the other day about how I learned to make omelettes. Do you remember? I learned with you. spacer

Christopher asked me how I learned to make omelettes the other day. I told him it was a funny story. You were spending the night at my house. My parents were still asleep so it meant we were up very eary (as usual). We tried to make the omelette ourselves but we both didn’t think egg shells should be in the omelette so them you suggested calling Aunt Emma. We must have called her four times. Our first batch came out runny. I remember her repeatedly saying ‘Stacy, the eggs shouldn’t move’. spacer

Christopher asked me the other day how I learned to make omelettes. You were spending the night with me. We were in our little kitchen trying to figure out how to make omelettes. I know we went through a dozen of eggs (probably from our farm). Our first attempt was beaten eggs with egg shells and all. I remember us looking at each other and saying that’s not right. We ended up calling Aunt Emma multiple times as she walked us through step-by-step via phone. I remember her telling me, ‘Stacy – make sure the eggs don’t move. There not ready hunny unless they don’t move.’ Our first omelette was cheese and little egg shell. spacer

Sarah,
Thanks! I hadn’t thought about Mrs. Dash not being available everywhere. They describe it a “Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends onion, black pepper, parsley, basil, orange peel and tomato add flavor excitement to any dish.” Hopefully, you can find something similar. I did a search and all I came up with were other Aussie’s looking for the same! Maybe Mrs. Dash should start distributing in Australia! Good Luck! Thanks for the comment!
