Montreal Bicycle Winter

White as Snow
Yesterday we had the first real snow in Copenhagen this winter. Snow came during night and early morning and left us with a perfect sunny snow bright Sunday. Cycling in snow can be a little tricky, so its best to reduce your normal pace and focus on keeping your balance. The sunshine brought thousands of people into the streets. Lots of cyclists came out just to enjoy a ride through the urban landscape. During most of the day the wind was low except for an occasional gust. It certainly did not feel as bad as she makes it look! For Copenhagen kids yesterday was everything they could dream of; rich sticky white snow and sun all day. A lot of happy and tired children went to bed last night! Happy cycling!

Peek-A-Boo
The Eastern Cold Front reached Denmark this week with record breaking frosty days and nights. Copenhageners continue to bike unabated but its necessary to plan your ride according to length - and the wind direction! I find that anything longer than 10 km needs serious packaging to avoid deep freezing my ears, nose and fingers. So lots of people here have started to play Peek-A-Boo. Its always a balance if you want to pack you nose in because moist quickly builds up under your scarf if you do. She was not letting her hand down - no matter what! Looking cool or maybe just cold. The ultimate in clam shell inspired wind protection for maximum heat preservation. Happy cycling!

The Mad Hatter
With winter comes a wonderful assortment of hats and caps. Above its all black with a black bike and hand bag to go along. All of it topped of with an elegant fur Cossack hat - of course also in traditional black. Below another stylish rider with a grey knit sur la tete set slightly to the side - as it should be. Now for once we have a gentleman who is truly into style. Love that red/black Pork Pie Hat to go with his red scarf. Made sure to take his picture with the white background to make it easier to discern the hat's colours. Some people are born with style. Simple, still beautiful combination of white knit beanie hat and matching gloves. And a glide to match! Finally, a gray fur trapper hat - and an alternative solution with a simple scarf to go. Happy cycling!

Legend
Christine was working with us at Copenhagenize Consulting for a month or so. She's from Seattle and is heading home after wrapping up her fellowship here in Copenhagen. She travelled the world looking at bicycle friendly cities and countries and was a brilliant addition to the Cycle Chic / Copenhagenize team. She'll be sorely missed. Check out her blog - Shift - for bicycle-related goodness.

I can always miss Barcelona. But a little bit more in the winter.

High and Dry
That clothes drying rack isn't going to walk home by itself, now is it?
Or that big, heavy box filled with secrets?

As Black as Gold
Here in Copenhagen, the night is as black as gold. And it is as good a time as any to ride your bike. Here is some of the night action from the mystical rider above to the nightclubbing girl below. Enjoy!
Ready to party.
Passing by.
A family affair.
Nightclubbing.
Happy cycling!
