← This is me: Dale Davidson.
Some background information:
I graduated from The George Washington University in 2009 with a degree in International Affairs.
I spent a year in the Navy as an Ensign in beautiful San Diego.
I decided to spend some time teaching English in Cairo, Egypt, and left during the revolution.
I moved to Portland, OR to get my company, TrekDek, off the ground. In the process I met some awesome people from the Portland Start-Up Scene and landed a contract gig with BootsnAll Travel as their Travel Partner Outreach Coordinator.
I’m currently back in my hometown of Lexington, MA (yes, the birthplace of America).
What I’ll be sharing on DaleThoughts.com
In the process of launching and building TrekDek, I realized that there was a ton of stuff I didn’t know about entrepreneurship and building a business. For a very long time, I found the idea of working in business extremely boring. How exciting could selling stuff really be?
It turns out that entrepreneurship, and the start-up world in particular, is awesome. While I was teaching in Cairo, I started delving into the genre of business literature, particularly those focused on entrepreneurship and start-ups. Each book provided a slightly different perspective on business problems and how to approach them. These books inspired me to start my own business and become a “producer.”
DaleThoughts.com will consist mostly of:
a. Business book reviews
b. Interviews with entrepreneurs, investors, and creative professionals.
c. Accounts of my efforts to build skills that will help me succeed as an entrepreneur.
What I hope to achieve over the next year
Many of my peers are pursuing their careers in a very passive way. Sending out 1000 resumes on Monster is passive.
I tried the resume approach for awhile. It doesn’t work. It is one of those activities that make you feel busy, but lead to poor results.
This blog is a way to keep me accountable for my own success (or failure).
I hope in a year’s time I’ll have some start-up experience and new entrepreneurship skills under my belt.
