Sarah’s Cucina Bella is all about family, food and creating memories in the kitchen. Written by Sarah W. Caron, a journalist with a degree in Political Science from Barnard College of Columbia University, the blog gives you a glimpse into the eating-life of Sarah, her six-year-old son Will, her four-year-old daughter Paige, her husband Shawn and their two beagles and assorted other family members.
How It Began
Back in 2005, Sarah Caron had just quit her full time staff job at the New Haven Register and was trying to decide how to launch a freelance career. While attending a writing conference at Barnard College, Sarah sat in on a food writers panel where Melissa Clark suggested that anyone interested in writing about food should start a blog. It was, she said, the future of food writing. Shortly after, Sarah did just that. Armed with a notebook of recipes and a mild interest in food, she just started writing. Over the course of the following year, Sarah’s interest in food and focus on local eating grew.
Today, most recipes on Sarah’s Cucina Bella are original. These are foods that Sarah and her family really eat in their Cucina Bella.
Sarah’s Cucina Bella was named one of the Top 25 Foodie Blogs by FriendsEat in 2009. Also, one of Sarah’s recipes and tips for getting kids to eat well was featured in the 2010 cookbook No Whine with Dinner by Liz Weiss and Janice Newell Bissex. Sarah was also a judge for the National Mango Board’s Mango Hometown Tour in Hartford in 2011.
What’s With the Name?
There is no big back story behind the name of this blog. When Sarah was trying to think of a name, she wanted to choose something simple and lasting. Since the kitchen of her Connecticut home was the room that she paid the most attention to when she and her husband purchased the house, a play on the words beautiful kitchen seemed fitting. Why is it in Italian? Well, it has a beautiful ring to it in that romantic language.
