EMF Privacy Policy

Background

This privacy policy statement has been created by Electronic Music Foundation (EMF) to disclose all of EMF's information-gathering practices from any of our websites and electronic communications. EMF, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, maintains a concert production office and studio in New York City and an administrative, publication, distribution, and archival center in Albany, New York.

Our many programs, projects, and activities include, but are not limited to, Ear to the Earth, Arts Electric, EMF Productions, The EMF Institute, CDeMusic, and EMF Media, each of which has a dedicated website and each of which can be linked to from the EMF home website located at:

www.emf.org

From here on in this Privacy Policy, 'Sites' will refer to any website that is a program or activity of EMF that can be accessed from the EMF home website or that is maintained by EMF for any additional projects or actviities.

By using any of the Sites, you agree to the terms in this policy. If you do not agree with the terms in this policy, do not use the Sites.

What are the different lists maintained by EMF?

An itemization and description of EMF's principal email lists can be found at:

www.emf.org/email.html

Additional lists may be associated with specific programs and accessed through those websites.

Each of EMF's programs and activities are unique and we use our email lists to disseminate information about them. Each of these email lists is customized to convey relevant information to its subscribers. As the organizational structures of EMF's activities change from time to time, the names of the lists may change, even if the nature of the information being disseminated remains substantially the same. Every communication we send out contains our contact information and an explanation of your inclusion on the list. Any subscriber to any EMF email list can unsubscribe to that list at any time.

How do we collect and use information?

There are some parts of certain Sites that contain a registration form that requires you to enter certain items of personal information, such as your name and email address, before continuing to use specific aspects of the Sites. We use these forms to identify what was accessed on the Sites and to customize the information we provide to you.

Any electronic communications that are received by EMF are kept on file and the contact information they contain is added to the relevant lists and used to provide better support, customize the information you receive, and to help maintain the Sites.

If at any time, you wish to correct or update your information as it is maintained in our database, or if you wish to accept or decline to receive any communications from us, you may use the appropriate form or contact us with your request. We will process your request as quickly as possible but we do not guarantee that the changes will be made before the next communication you receive from us.

Disclosure of your personal information

EMF will not sell, trade, distribute, or otherwise make known, any of your contact information in our email lists without first receiving your consent. We maintain our lists in the utmost confidence to protect our users' privacy.

EMF may disclose your contact information, however, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on EMF; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of EMF and its products or services, or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of any of the products we distribute or the public at large.

Security

EMF has several websites and collects information in different ways. Some of the Sites are 'secure sites' with security measures in place to protect the information that is being communicated. Areas of the Sites that are designed for general browsing are not 'secure' and do not have any extraordinary security measures in place beyond the normal connections used to communicate electronic data.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

EMF may periodically change the Sites. Some of those changes may cause EMF to update this Privacy Policy to reflect those changes. No update to this Privacy Policy will change your agreement with EMF about how EMF has used your information prior to the update. We recommend that you periodically check this Privacy Policy for updates. Your decision to continue using the Sites and receiving information from EMF after the Privacy Policy has been updated will signify that you have agreed to any new Privacy Policy terms.
