You can’t go far these days without everyone creating a buzz about the social media craze of Pinterest. Some people are jumping on board right away and others are patiently waiting and watching to see if it’s just a fad, or if it’s a viable place to start social networking. Since I happen to be a long standing member of the Pinterest community, and happen to absolutely love everything about it, I can give you some insight on how to use Pinterest to your advantage.

Some words of wisdom I could offer a beginner, would be to create some boards that have a variety of topics. Include boards that will pertain to your business so they make sense, and some boards of personal interest, so people get a feel for your genuineness. The same social media etiquette applies here, so share other people’s content and build boards that compliment what you will add to it. The best way to build your content and engage other followers is to create a Community Board.

 What’s A Community Board?

A Community Board is a place where you can invite a select group of other Pinterest users to pin related posts onto a single board. By doing this, you can build your followers quickly while building trust among the Pinterest community.

How Could I Use A Community Board?

There are many ways to use a Community Board, and really it’s going to depend on what you’re trying to promote. If you have a daycare or teach Sunday School, you might want a Community Board like the one above so parents and other leaders could pin things they think would be good crafts for the kids to make. If you have a Real Estate business, you might want to create a Community Board where buyers can post a picture of the new home you sold them. You can make the boards fit whatever business you’re in, and it can become a portfolio of real life, drawing new interest at the same time.

How Do I Create A Community Board?

1. Create A Board

Once you have created some boards and pinned posts as examples, you are ready to begin. Go to your “Boards” by hovering over your username in the top right corner. All of your boards will be displayed; decide which of them you will make into a community board.

2. Allow Contributors

Click “Edit” on the one(s) you want to make into community boards. It will open a settings window where you can add a description with directions on how to become a contributor, and edit the settings to allow other users to add pins to the board.

When other users contact you to become contributors of the Community Board, you will enter their Pinterest username and add them as a contributor. All of their posts to that board will then be added to the board collection, that can be shared and followed the same way any other board can. It’s super easy and a great way to build boards with great content, helping you network with people in your industry.
