Anquan Brown, better known by his stage name Rick Flame, is a premiere rapper, writer and artist from Miami, Fl.  His name arose from a shortened version of his middle name Chadrick and Flame was suggested by friends, after one recording session in which they joked about him burning down the booth with his lyrics.

Born in the infamous neighborhood of Little Haiti, Flame tried to distance himself from the streets by focusing on music and the arts.  He attributes his love for music to his grandmother and aunt, who used to always have a song playing when he came home from school.

At the age of thirteen, Flame formed his first group “Toon Squad” which each member took on the persona of a cartoon character.  It wasn’t until his second group effort, D4Dub, did Flame begin to take his skills seriously.  Shortly after building a local buzz, the group disbanded, citing personal conflicts.

In 2008, he met producer/engineer Danny “Inkredible” Dank and studio manager Ryan “Skage” Waltz, owners of Midtown Recording Studio.  After one recording session Dank spoke to Flame and offered to help develop his skills.

“He just told me about putting more emotion into my songs and showed me how to be more aggressive in the booth,” said Flame.

While under the direction of Dank, Flame scored a minor hit with the song “Stick and Rock.”  He later remixed “Hustle Hard”, a track by Ace Hood, into “Study Hard” which became the anthem for Miami-Dade County School’s FCAT testing rally.

Soon after, Flame began working on his first mixtape. Abandoning the sound heard on “Stick and Rock,” Flame wanted to show more of his lyrical skill and versatility.  Produced mostly by Dank, Flame’s first solo effort is set to be released on September 30, 2011 entitled I Am Rick Flame.
