Case Study: The Theoretical Product Finally Built

By Andrew in Case Study

At the outset of Media Startup, Bruce assembled an impressive team of Program Managers and developers.  Unfortunately, the team spent over 4 months creating requirements and strategizing on go-to-markets.

The Challenge

The problem, Media Startup realized, was that they would not know what is going to work until they try it. What Media Startup needed was a quick prototype; a minimum viable product they could use to test and iterate on their assumptions of user engagement and click-through.

Bruce concluded then he needed a team with start-up experience that could build the very basic functionality of Media Startup to get it out to users quickly and begin testing.

The Solution

After reading the pitch on GroupTalent’s marketplace, Bruce reached out to us for help.  Once we got an outline of his business goals, we offered Media Startup the choices of: i- a startup with experience building advertising networks, ii- another with vast experience building apps on Facebook, and iii- Evan, a local developer well known for rapid prototyping (and a little of Startup weekend junky!) currently working on a tablet project.

Given the amount of back and forth expected on the project, Media selected Evan for the project.  Evan took Media’s requirements and crafted the requirements for a 2-day sprint (per GroupTalent’s policy) and set out to work on a Friday.  By the following Monday, Media had a test-ready prototype with all the basic functionality of a social advertising marketplace.

Media Startup got early results on the efficiency of their ad unit and set out to iterate on their concept by trialing it with a small set of publishers.  Media Startup is retaining Evan for future work as they iterate on features and learn more about their customer!

Summary

  •  Media Startup needed a social media marketplace prototype built.
  • After not being able to do it internally, Media Startup found and hired an expert in rapid prototyping in the GroupTalent marketplace.
  • What had taken over 4 months, Media accomplished in 2 days!
  • Now Media can start iterating on their concept and optimize their business model.

What They’re Saying

spacer “I loved working on such a blue ski concept as Media. I was intrigued about the business and the technology. I feel like I did my best work.” – Evan Jacobs, KindleGraph
