What is A Long Tail Keyword and Why Are they So Important?

This “tail” was discussed in terms of digital music or books for example that very few people purchased. These “long tail” books or music were titles that very few people purchased; however, because they were digital, the cost of carrying these titles is next to nothing. But it is even BETTER to sell 2 copies of a million different obscure titles! (This is the real power of Long Tail Keywords).
In other words, in aggregate many online retailers were finding that they could make MORE money by selling just a few copies each of lots of different titles rather than millions of copies of just a few best sellers. This is the power of the Long Tail.
