Welcome to Bliss Habits

date: Mar 03, 2011 | by: Kathy

Have you ever enjoyed a moment of pure bliss?

An ideal moment that seemingly defies time and space.

A moment so perfect your heart and soul sing with gratitude for the chance to experience it?

I have.  And I wanted more!

Hello and welcome,

My name is Kathy and I am truly delighted to have you stop by. You have landed in the middle of my ongoing experiment to add more Bliss to everyday life.

Why more bliss?

Experiencing a moment of Bliss is timeless and almost always affects us deeply. In those moments we see our selves most clearly. Within Bliss the moment of NOW is pure magic and we are amazed and inspired by what it is to be human.

I believe every time we experience a moment of Bliss we connect to something much larger then ourselves. Bliss is magical and has the ability to transport us beyond our day to day concerns. Certainly it is possible to exist without it but thriving requires it.

You may be struggling to pay the bills, dealing with difficult and complicated situations at work or home that lead you to believe Bliss is the least of your concerns, but this would be a mistake. Since beginning my experiment, I’ve learned when our Bliss tanks are full, our capacity for compassion and action are greatly increased. To my delight, I have also found that pursuing and sharing Bliss has helped me be a better parent, wife, friend and citizen of the world.

I now believe that Bliss is our birthright, we all crave it, and everyone, no matter their life situation, can benefit from a little more Bliss

I invite you to join me in cultivating the Habit of everyday Bliss.

‎”If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Wherever you are—if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time.” ~Joseph Campbell

So, how is the game played?

First, I distinguished virtues or areas of life I felt had the potential for fostering Bliss. (if it interested, you can read all about my process here.)

My Thirteen Virtues of Bliss are:

joy,  order,  creativity,  passion, whimsy, serenity,  inquiry,

community, romance, gratitude, moxie, humility, and surprise

Each week I concentrate on one of these virtues. I find resources for study, sources of inspiration and I come up with games to play. I create “Bliss Initiatives,” which are concrete things anyone can do in their own life to foster a particular bliss virtue. Some of these things will be simple; perhaps something like Smile at three strangers today and others will be more time consuming; make a list of the things that bring you joy today, or more complicated: hand make a greeting card and deliver it in person.

It is not possible to do everything I come up with. We all have busy lives and this project is intended to inspire not overwhelm! Some weeks I have a dozen lofty ideas but am unable to even complete one. I believe in Earl Nightingale’s old adage that we become what we think about so even the inquiry has an effect.

The Invitation

This game is VERY user friendly, after all it is about BLISS. I want everyone to have fun while taking part or even just following along! Participate as much or as little as you want. Some weeks it may be possible to take everything on and other weeks you may only want to follow along as others try things out.

Bottom line, If you would like to join me in cultivating Bliss Habits, you can do so by

  • playing along with the “Bliss Initiatives”
  • creating your own game and initiatives
  • joining in on the companion Facebook discussions
  • and/or following along

Again, you are invited to play as much or little as you want!

Over on the companion Facebook Page, I start each week telling you what I plan to do, end each week telling you what I actually did, and share my observations “from the field” in between. I will explore each virtue in a number of different ways and share what happens both here and over there.

I would love it if you joined me in making Bliss a Habit.

Outrageous joy,

Kathy

P.S. If you are an artist, blogger, writer, lover of life who has something that would contribute to one or more of the Bliss Virtues and you would like to share your craft and point of view as a guest of this blog please let me know. I am eager to make Bliss Habits a sharing and collaborative space for all Blissful pursuits!

A sumptuous bowl of lemons, oranges, and limes…

…sits on a table in the sunlight. They look fresh and bright and oh-so-juicy, with skin so perfect it’s as if they were created by an artist. Imagine their scent, so vivid and clean… envision cutting them into chunks, the juice running through your fingers, and the fresh citrus smell circulating through the air, clearing all the dusty thoughts from your head…

    Musical accompaniment for your journey…
