Interior: Warmth In Belgium

spacer
A warm and welcoming family home.

I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend so far! I certainly am, enjoying the little bit of snow that we have left for the time being, and staying cozy indoors. This beautiful home featured today has been in my magazine library for a few years now, and seems to embody warmth and coziness in abundance, and very effortlessly so. The spaces seem so approachable and inviting...

Nothing looks too precious, or untouchable, which is particularly simpler with young ones at home. There also seems to be a nice balance of fine pieces and those that are a little more casual and comfortable; as well as masculinity with a dash of more feminine pieces. In the medley of such, lies great personality.

Apart from the obvious look and feel, there are a number of details to look at, beginning with the incredible wood detailing in the first space, and the juxtaposition of the ornate chairs against the slouchy sofa seating. I find that as you look again and again, you notice more and more... Do you enjoy this home?

It looks like a real home, not an editorial. I love the dark blue/gray sofa with the ottomans. Yes, Sarah, I enjoyed this home very much. xx's

    Dearest Sarah,

The oak wood paneling is incredible indeed! It almost creates the warmth and coziness which we find in a Rembrandt painting. But still livable and easy to match with modern pieces. Love the tiled flooring as well and the tall windows with lots of light... Don't have the luxury for staying on this post but otherwise, yes I could start filling in more and more!
Love to you and a great Sunday.

    Mariette

PS this comes closer to home for me, where I grew up in the Burgundian Province of Limburg, The Netherlands. In my 3 wedding posts from past week, you can find more Burgundian charm.

I love how they've decorated contrary to the historic and ornate architecture, fixtures, millwork, etc.. It's like you've said, there's nothing too precious in the home. I find the juxtaposition of these 2 extremes very interesting... a kind of minimalism & ornateness living together... there's almost a tension that's created between the two, but not one that's off putting. Rather, it's symbiotic.
Hahaha! I sound so esoteric in my ramblings!! ;-)

Sarah , the floor of the home is divine. Looks like some of the 19th century buildings in the city of Willemstad here in Curacao. They are now making a "come-back" with more modern homes adding this tile feature to some of their rooms. Quite impressive.

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend.

    OH MY!

I would like to sit at the desk in the first photograph and write poetry or a love letter.

And then cook a dinner for friends and family. You should come over!

I am enjoying the weekend: five inches of snow yesterday made for some beautiful photographs of cardinals at the feeder in our backyard. I made no-knead bread yesterday which I will cook late this afternoon--Honey Rye.
