A few weeks back I told Sweetnicks that I was planning to post a picture of one of my plants, since I don't have a dog or a cat to show when all the food bloggers start doing weekend dog blogging or weekend cat blogging. I was just kidding at first, but the idea grew on me. That's what inspired me to take this picture of the basil crop I picked last weekend.
I mentioned earlier how I was going to do a better job of clearing out my garden before it snowed this year. Last fall I completely neglected that job, and I paid for it in the spring when I had a real mess to clean up before I could even think about planting any veggies. When I got out to the garden last weekend, of course I discovered I had lots of other tasks I hadn't even thought about. One of them was doing the last picking of herbs for the season. The photo you see is a bucket (yes, I did say a bucket!) of fresh basil that I am going to pulse in my food processor with a little olive oil and then freeze in little cubes. All winter I will use it for pasta sauce, soup, and chicken stuffed with goat cheese and basil. Yum.
Now, it's Saturday again, so back to do some more work in the garden.
