@ianlatham quite agree. is just unusual for me to take a less proArsenal view than the neutrals on tv so was curious what others thought

Still not a lot to see here

FOR the second Sunday afternoon in succession I was in a plane for the Arsenal game and so did not catch the action.

Clearly, it was a good comeback.

On the refereeing issues, I’d say this:

- Dunne simply had to get a straight red for the Ramsey penalty incident. Once you’ve ruled his contribution illegal, the question is whether Ramsey would have had a clear goalscoring chance had he not been there. Of course he would have.

- I don’t get the fuss over the RVP incident. The top part of his arm is near enough vertical. Had it been horizontal and had he properly swung it then fine. But he didn’t.

I don’t think you can stress the importance of the FA Cup to us. We’re not going to win the league. And we’re not realistically very likely to win the Champions League.

Come the end of season reckoning, the FA Cup, or lack of it, could make all the difference.

    Arsenal fan here.
I don’t think Dunne should have got a straight red, possibly a yellow, but equally possible what happened this time: the penalty was enough punishment.
Ramsay would NOT have had a clear goalscoring opportunity, he had already knocked the ball too far ahead of him, and it would have been in the keepers hands long before he could have any goal scoring opportunity.

If that tackle had been made elsewhere on the pitch, it would have been a booking. He was already on a yellow, so he would have been off had the referee had a pair of bollocks!

Glad that we won but sadly it was still a typical performance from Arsenal. We got lucky this time.
We are still conceding easy goals (and typically when we have most of the possession).
We often don’t wake up until we fall behind.
We failed to score from open play.

But a win is a win. It was such a relief to see comeback. reminds me of the fighting spirit of previous teams. Lets hope this win kick starts a much needed winning streak .

More work is needed in the defense. There is still a lack understanding between the back four. Practicing heading the ball is a must especially when it comes to corners.

Wenger must also be wise in playing young players, although they might have a bigger engine and alway wanting to play every game. It is also essential that they be rested between games.

Ref was right on the RVP incident.Absolutely no intent and the victimdidnot complain!! However, their so called manager was intent on putting on a show and as cover for their defeat in trying very hard to victimise RVP. Shame on him.

So Wenger has signed another hot prospect. Hopefully he can improve the senior team otherwsie it will be a waste of time. The needs of the first team are to improve and hopefully qualify for the cl.
If this guy is bought with a view to being farmed/loaned,we know what will happen . It will be back to square one.

I was happy to see Rosicky acting as a feeder for RVP in first half, even if it came to nought…virtually every pass he made was to RVP even if RVP was not open, at times recently seemed as if Ramsey or others had been a bit selfish not passing to RVP. If you have RVP you must use him, get him his chances. Happy to see Ox starting. Knew we were in for it when I saw Per way up the pitch not getting back from something, whatever you think of him he has an anchoring, settling, adding-sanity impact to the defense, when he’s actually there, not like him to get stuck way out of position. Was nice to see them being aggressive.

Wolfgang, the new guy hasn’t played for Dortmund’s first team yet. However good he is long-term, it’s pointless talking about any impact he’ll have for the rest of this season. He won’t have any.Let’s not be silly about it.

Shawn, totally disagree. We’re trying to play RvP too much if anything. I can’t see how you can see a positive in trying to find someone with a pass who’s isn’t available for one, that’s just crazy. It’s up to the other attackers to step up & take the pressure off him so that he’s free more often.

As for the RvP ‘elbow’, the reason for the fuss is quite simple. RvP is a dirty foreigner playing for Arsenal being criticised by a British manager. If the tables were turned, the fuss would be about Wenger’s ‘whinging’.
(don’t get me wrong. I’m as sick & tired of Arsene’s whinging when we lose as anyone but he’s no worse than the rest of the managers out there. In fact, a few are much worse.)

We simply gotta get 6 points this week. With Chelsea drawing tonight we could catch them on Saturday & then hope MU beat them on Sunday. It’s getting very close to the point where we have to give up on catching the Totts & concentrate on them…

eisfeld is no more than a punt at this stage, he’s only played for dortmund u-19s. we’ve had a litany of players from the continent that have come in a similar age and not made it. they are worth a punt because we get them for free or close enough, and their wages aren’t significant in the scheme of things. i’m thinking of nordveit, bischoff, tavlaridis and the like. they’ve all gone on to do ok elsewhere. it will be great if eisfeld makes it, but i’m not holding my breath.
agree with PD on this week – great opportunity to gain on chelsea. we need two good performances against 2 teams close to the bottom. time for more players to start scoring,we really need goals from midfield.
one last thought on transfers: i was hoping for midfield backup to come in with jack and diaby (forever injured) both being out. our backup right now consists of rosicky (more attack-minded and tends to be injury-prone himself) and coquelin (good, but a rookie). of course, a top-class centre forward to partner/back up RVP would also have been appreciated. i guess we’ll have to live with a 19-yr old German instead.

@PD: It’s just math. Sick of seeing virtually every shot by Ramsey sail over the goal, or every shot by Rosicky go straight to the keeper’s feet. So if other strikers/shooters convert a shot 10% of the time when they take it, compare that with a 50% conversion rate of passes to RvP, and RvP converts shot on goal 30% of the time, then 30% of 50% is > 10% you’d get from their own shots. We’ll score more via attempted passes to RvP than wasted shots by ineffective scorers (and if lately Theo or weeks ago Gervinho were considered ineffective scorers, then definitely the other’s are).
