About

I have no recollection of when or at what time I created this blog. When people ask, I say that it’s all gone and it’s the future that’s important, not the past. Well, it’s an answer, because I feel like I created this blog in another life, and I can’t say that, can I?

At the moment, my blog is not updated as often as I would like. The reason is simple. I don’t have the time. I am writing my first novel, and will hopefully be publishing it sometime during 2012. The novel is in Norwegian, and if you follow what I write on this blog, I will keep you updated about the story, and how I plan to market the novel.

Now, back to what slymarketing is all about.

The incentive…

What I remember, or what I think that I remember, is that I first created this blog in order to learn marketing. I believe that I created it in order to get in touch with like-minded people, people with a passion for marketing, from all across the world. I wanted to share my thoughts, and I wanted to learn.

I’m still writing about my experience with marketing, but I’m also writing about my personal experience in life. It’s a personal blog, and I can’t just write about marketing, although marketing is what it’s mostly about. But don’t be alarmed if I add a few sentences about my eating habits. I write what comes to my mind, and sometimes when I shouldn’t have hit the publish button, I did it anyway.[/box]

The writing process …

I try to write all the time, every single day, but most of it will never be published. Usually, I publish an article on this blog two times a week, but sometimes once a week, and other times every day of the week. What you need to know is that you’ll get fresh content every week, that’s a promise.

When I get an idea, I try to write it down, either on a piece of paper, on my iPhone or on my MacBook, or I try to remember it. It all depends on where I’m at. Then, when I have time to write, I sit down where ever I’m located and start writing. I’m not hiding inside an office anymore.

I usually use mind mapping, and a software called MindNode Pro, in order to structure the blog post and add as many thoughts as possible. When it’s time to write, I start by using Concentrate, a software to help me concentrate. It stops all distractions and helps me focus on writing. When I write, I almost always use WriteRoom for my blog posts, and Scrivener for the novel I’m currently writing.

About me …

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you who I am. My name is Jens P. Berget, I’m the author and creator of slymarketing, and I’m usually the only writer. It could be that I add a guest post now and then, but usually it’s all me. I live in Norway with my wife and two kids. I spend as much time as possible with them, but I also spend about 8 hours a day at work. I have a masters degree in political science, but I work at the marketing department of a college in Norway. The fact that I didn’t know a whole lot about marketing in the first place, what seems like a very long time ago, is why I think I created this blog. And, by the way, I’m 39 years old.[/box]
