We spread the love of bike-making by running build-your-own-bike workshops and selling build-your-own-bike kits.

We’ve taught over two hundred and fifty people to make bikes at the Bamboo Bike Studio. Tens of thousands of miles of test riding. Riding through winter, through potholes and all over the world.

We helped to start a factory in Ghana in September, with the goal of providing the lowest cost and highest value bicycles to people who want them most.

The Bamboo Bike Studio is a design and development company, funded through our workshops and kits.
We strive to spend at least 50% of employee time in development and execution of projects related to our three-fold mission:

1. To push the capabilities of our company into using the most high performance materials and processes possible. We judge this on functional, environmental, and economic considerations.

2. To use these capabilities to further the accessibility and appeal of bicycles, through spreading knowledge and capabilities of bike making.

3. Developing outreach programs to engage young people in fabrication, engineering and environmental design.

Justin Aguinaldo is a former champion bike messenger, Justin is now the full time bike designer and tester for the Bike Studio. He answers any and all questions about components, geometries and any bike-riding related inquiry with diligence and sincerity.  An honest fellow in a world of salesman, Justin loves to share his bike knowledge and help people design bikes they will love.

Justin enjoys wheelies, bar spins and the Ice House Bar. He thinks like JP Morgan crossed with Mother Teresa.

Marty Odlin is the engineering and design guru. He is happiest when there are problems to solve, and is always trying to make things better. An energetic jack-of-all-trades, Marty’s motto is “If I can do it, you can do it.”

Marty is obsessed with land prices in his home state of Maine, repeatedly redesigns his future home, surfs, and eats terrific amounts of ice cream. He lists his political affiliation and philosophical orientation as “Maine and America.”

Piper Aldridge is a recent graduate of Hunter College, Piper has unlimited endurance and patience. She is pretty much the best bamboo bike making instructor on the planet, and has all the boys under her thumb… so don’t even test her. Piper enjoys being insanely hip, the Wu Tang Clan, and riding her bike… a lot.

Piper is our resident libertarian librarian. Seriously, do not test her.

Fence Heanue is our Brooklyn Studio manager, and is charge of all physical throughput through the Bamboo Bike Studio world. Fence runs the machines that run the machine, and is absolutely keen on assisting people making their dream bike. Despite his charm and good looks, Fence is really good at holding stuff for people… which is a handy skill in a workshop.

Fence’s political affiliation is “the nice kind of anarchy, where everyone helps each other.” Whatever, man.

Egor Lazebnik is our in house Russian translator and all around good guy. He’s an instructor in our Brooklyn workshop and supplements his day job teaching English in the Empire State Building with teaching bike building in the Red Hook Studio. I don’t know if that’s two very similar jobs, or if they are completely different… I’m not sure if he does either.
