Mass Effect 3

Shiny Mass Effect 3 website launches 5 feature videos

We expect Mass Effect 3 to have action, a rich story, customizable weapons, co-op mode and intelligent enemies -- but that doesn't mean we don't want to see these things in action, right now. With the launch of a new website, Mass Effect 3 is showing off some of its core features in five new videos, with "Adrenaline Pumping Gameplay" shown above, and the other four below.

If you weren't expecting Mass Effect 3 to have things like "a story" or "enemies," maybe don't watch the videos and save the surprise for the game's release. Also, retroactive spoiler alert.

Build a Customizable Arsenal:

Integrated Storytelling:

Ruthless and Intelligent Enemies:

Integrated Co-Op Multiplayer:

I'm disappointed in the lack of a Dead Space collabo

@Fugaku

Haven't thought about that. It actually makes more sense then the Kingdoms of Amalur collaboration. I got Reckoning day one and I dig the collaboration with ME3, but a Dead Space Armor exchange would be pretty cool. I suppose it's due to release dates and whatnot.

Tried really hard not to watch these videos. I've avoided them all day. I caved! Thankfully the wait is short!

Never played Mass Effect before... Should I play it? I've played Dragon Age before and i've been told Dragon Age used the Mass Effect system...

you could probably pick up the 2nd game up somewhere if you want (you could probably find it cheap) i would personaly say to skip the first as it can be pretty slow.

@pluupy Both 1 and 2 are pretty cheap now. Like 17.99 cheap. Mass Effects combat is a little weird but 2 improved on it.

In my opinion, you will be missing out on one of the best gaming experiences this generation if you pass up the Mass Effect franchise.

@pluupy I highly recomend it, Mass Effect (the first one) is a bit of a slog but the payoff for seeing your decisions impact ME 2 (and later ME3) are worth it. You can get them all cheap.

@commonperson

As someone who has over 100 hrs logged in each ME, I have to disagree. A lot of people over hype the payoff of importing a ME1 Shepard. There is not a single decision that isn't in the Genesis comic, and has a decent payoff in ME2. ME1's combat and controls feel really dated, and the beginning is extremely slow. Anyone who hasn't played ME1 yet, is better off just buying ME2 and the Genesis DLC.

ME1 has a place in my heart, but I just want to be honest with anyone who feels swayed into trying the ME series after watching the ME3 trailers.

It's not so much that Mass Effect used the Dragon Age system, which is actually a classic style DnD based affair, but that Dragon Age 2 were streamlined to a certain degree, to match Mass Effects formula. As for you playing Mass Effect, I would say yes, with no hesitation - it redefines the grandiose space opera story type, all done in a beautiful 80's scifi visual style. Many people will tell you to skip Mass Effect 1, but I don't think that is very smart. It may not have been as polished and thrilling as 2, but it was still a top-tier game, and had a lot of depth which was lost in 2. Also, after playing 2 and maybe even 3 later this month, you are guaranteed to want to go back and check out 1 anyway, so why not get the story chapters in the correct order from the get-go...? If you have a gaming PC, then I would recommend playing Mass Effect 1 on that, since it was the superior version. The only drawback is that you won't be able to transfer your save to anything but the PC versions of 2 and 3.

@pluupy

I always advocate for playing ME1 first. Is the combat weaker than the rest of the game? Yes. But honestly something like that shouldn't be the only reason to not play it.

Besides, having a Shepard over three consecutive games that is consistent according to the choices you made is something unique.

I'm so twitchy for this game I can't wait. I pre-ordered from Origin since the only local store is EB Games/Gamestop and they claim to have been sold out for ages soooooo can't wait! But it's being delivered. :-( Ah well. Maybe I'll play the demo this week end. I hope it imports my femshep and only covers the begining (idealy like first hour game play then when you get retail it picks up from save there.) ARRGH! I want it now!

@commonperson There hasn't been a demo released that allows you to save your game and then pick up where you left off once the retail version has been released. However, feel free to prove me wrong since no demo I've ever played let me do that.

@TheBlahMasta The new Amalur said it would once I cleared the starter area and entered the "trial 45 minutes," your game is supposed to carry right over in to the purchased game so you don't have to repeat the tutorial. I didn't buy the game and deleted my saves so I don't know if it actually worked though. That being said I doubt it'd happen with ME 3 but it'd be really really nice if it did. :-(
