Romance – Blog Carnival

Welcome to the One Word At A Time Blog Carnival – this week’s word is: Romance.
No matter how you’ve come to be here or where you’re coming from, you’re welcome and we’d love for you to come back and visit us again soon.
The idea of the carnival is simple. We pick one word every two weeks and all write a blog post inspired by that word, this week being the word romance. It’s fascinating to see the range of different trains of thought that can come from just one word.
Below this, you’ll find a little widget called Simply Linked. All the participants add their links to the widget and that way, we can all find and read all the entries into the carnival. You’re welcome to join us, the carnival is open to anyone.

Renewing Your Romance

Relationships are always fragile. They require commitment and dedication from both parties.
If your marriage is suffering, you could be guilty of one of the following:
- not giving your spouse enough of your time
- not paying attention to your spouse
- being stubborn about something in your relationship and not being prepared to compromise to make your spouse happy
- becoming complacent about your relationship and losing focus on it
Think of your relationship like a flowerbed. When you plant it, you spend time tending it and watering it until it grows and blooms. Once it is in full bloom though, you still need to keep watering and weeding it or it will get dry and choked by the weeds and will start to wither. Get your watering can out and your gardening gloves on and start tending that flower. It may be hard, messy work at first but a little dedication will result in a thing of beauty growing again.
Then…. keep tending it. It only takes a little work to keep that flowerbed healthy!
The same is true of your relationship with God.
God is always putting in the work and effort, but very often, we don’t. We let the weeds grow up and we stop watering it and all of a sudden we find that our relationship with him is dry and almost impossible to see for all the weeds.
As we head toward Valentine’s day, why not take a new look at your relationship with God as well as your relationship with your spouse and see what you can do to improve both!

Great reminder, Peter. We always find time for the things we consider important, so there’s no excuses, no telling we don’t have time to nurture our relationship with God and with our loved ones.
God and our family should be our top two priorities, in that order.
By the way, thanks for hosting the Blog Carnival! And may you and your wife enjoy a great Valentine’s day!
You’re welcome, and thank you!!!
Amen to that!!
Very true. My biggest problem with gardening is being consistent during the hotter, more humid part of the season. Good intention, but lacking in follow-through. SO FAR this hasn’t hit my marriage too much, too often. Before Dave was dropped into my life the Lord said, “If I send you a good man will you be nice to him?” After a very bad marriage and being only around tough men my whole life, I had a tendency to be “tough” back, and if a guy [co-workers, neighbor, etc.] was “too nice” I would sometimes push buttons to see if this “wimpy” guy was real. WELL, when I heard that question, I hollered “YES!!!”… I was ready. It has been a blessing ever since. Now I rarely would risk not paying attention during “humid and hot times” b/c I don’t [don't, don't] want to risk weediness or witheriness. Uh, UH!
Hey! Thanks so much for asking me to link up my blog post on enriching your marriage! I thank you for blogging on ‘romance’ and enabling us to read posts for encouragement, support, and feedback. Such a beautiful post and I love how you correlated a marriage to tending a garden/relationship with God. Bless you!
Tending to our gardens is an excellent example of keeping love in relationships and in our marriage. Great Post Peter and thank you for hosting. Your facebook notice helps as a reminder.
First off, I love the idea of a Carnival! How fun! This week’s topic fit right in with what I write about at Woman to Woman Ministries. Thank you for the chance to link up.
I love the idea that our marriage is like a garden. If we plant and walk away, either nothing grows or it grows then quickly dies. We need to tend that garden on an ongoing basis. Same with our relationship with Christ. Great encouragement!
Indeed I am delving into the mysteries of marriage and God and romance…
Thank you for this piece and the opportunity to share.
Blessings.
I’m sliding in here this time–a little late, but here.
So hard to have a flowering marriage if we aren’t cultivating a relationship with God.
