Spring Festival
spacer
spacer
Spring is almost sprung!! The vigor and renewal of spring time has been observed for a long time in Vedic traditions along many other cultures. In general, in the northern hemisphere, spring is a time of hope and rebirth. Typically, a lot of cleaning is done, broken things
(and feelings) get fixed, homes are freshened up, and bright, newly bloomed flowers are placed around the house. Spring is observed as a time of the return of light and warmth. A time to resurrect, revive, and return to the light. Bonfires are built and the ashes of the old fire are spread out in the fields to fertilize and energize the New Year's harvest. Celebrate the balance of light and dark as the sun begins to shine more, foretelling new growth, energy, and prosperity ahead. If you want a new crop, you need to plant new seeds. Spring is the Time!

Featured Jyotish - Gary Gomes

spacer spacer Gary Gomes holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts and is a doctoral candidate in education (Ed.D.) at Northeastern University, one of the top 100 schools in the United States. He has worked in local and state government since 1975, after, in a fit of practicality, turning down a chance to be a music promoter offered by John Coltrane bassist Reggie Workman after he graduated college. Gary has been interested in spiritual life since the late 1960's,
approaching it first through musicians like John Cage and John Coltrane. (He still writes about music on-line--you can see some of his work at the Perfect Sound Forever and All About Jazz websites-- and plays a few different musical instruments. Early on he was interested in Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, and studied various spiritual writers like Rudolph Steiner. He also practiced certain aspects of Tantric breathing,

Precession of the Equinox
The Sky is Falling!

Springtime heralds an important event in calendar systems and time keeping. The gears of the year in the zodiac are renewed and adjusted at this time. The zodiac, or bha chakra, is a wheel. Anything round is eternal in its flow. If you want to make the wheel temporal or a timekeeping device, you have to define a starting point on the natural seamlessness of the wheel.

A traditional starting point on the wheel of the zodiac, also called the ecliptic (where eclipses occur), is the spring equinox.

Ancient astronomer priests would look for the Sun rising at a certain spot on the horizon each year (often with the aid of temples, marker stones and the like) to mark the start of the spring season and a new year in the constellation of Aries.

A Study Guide to Nakshatras
Part II - Chart Application

The human mind is a complex web of conscious and unconscious thoughts, desires, emotions and sensory perceptions. A Natal Chart shows us behavior tendencies, while the Lunar Mansions allow us to look more intimately at ones psychology and personal growth lessons.

In Modern Astrology the Nakshatras are used for: Natal Astrology, Muhurtha, Mundane, Synastry and the Dasha System. For the purpose of this article, we will look at Natal and D-9 (Navamsha). Now, let us take a closer look at the Nakshatras and how to apply this information to basic chart analysis. For your reference, here is a list of the 27 Lunar Mansions:

Each Nakshatra is associated with a symbol, motivation, deity and myth. They convey powerful messages. In my personal experience, I am finding that the myths are wonderful to share with clients because they offer an oasis of self discovery and healing. Due to length, I will omit the corresponding myths.

Answer: ONE

Quote of the Quarter

Krishna speaking to Arjuna, O Son of Kunti, The nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.
-- Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 14.

What Our Learners are saying:

I wish to take the opportunity to thank my tutors and companion students for a very informative and enjoyable year. We happened to come from very different parts of the world and very different walks of life, so each of us made useful and complementary contributions. Of course, this was facilitated by the unique format of the course, which has been well thought out and offers value for money. J. Hartwig, Milano, Italy

I will surely miss the course and I enjoyed this year tremendously. I am assured that I have made the right decision study Jyotish. This year has taught me a lot, on all levels of my being. I am grateful to have been a part of such a dynamic team of students. Thank you for all your valuable interactions and input. I hope we meet again in Level II! Thanks to all our instructors for their guiding light and patience! B.B. Egypt
