Winter is in full swing, even if it has been fairly mild this year. That means we're all inside more often, and all of our germs are hangin' out indoors right alongside us. I know my mom would always say that I had to put on a jacket so I wouldn't catch a cold, but um, it's the germs, ma. Not the windchill. So now that I'm in charge of three little kids' well-being, I guess I have to make sure they don't catch colds. Selfishly, it's so that I don't have three sick kids simultaneously, whining and whimpering through their illness. Oh yes, and the whole "it's not fun to be sick" thing. We have all been there. "I'm just walking around the block," "We're just sitting outside," "He/She'll be fine!" But what happens if they're not fine? It's been incredibly beautiful here in the Midwest this winter. Yesterday it was 60 degrees, and all three kids and I were basking in the sunshine and playing outside. I was on my laptop getting some blog work done, and Micah was tootling around the yard on his power wheel. Maisy, my 8 month old, was sitting in her stroller, holding a teething toy and babbling away. Emma and Maisy were being particularly sweet to each other, so I snapped this photo and posted it on my Facebook feed: Within 15 seconds, this scene was very different. As I was putting my phone down, Micah came barreling down the sidewalk on his power wheel, and he rammed the back of Maisy's stroller going full speed. Man. That was an ugly week. It started out great -- after all, last week I finally hit my pre-pregnancy weight!  I was feeling great. But then, the slippery slope of junk began. I ate fast food. Then I ate fast food again. Then we had date night, and I ordered a chicken fried chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes. And a margarita. Yup. It was that bad. Week 4: 193.8 Week 5: 195.2 Gain: 1.4 pounds Total loss to date: 16.6 pounds Honestly, I expected it to be worse. I was predicting a gain of 3 or 4 pounds. At least, that's how awful I felt. Sure, the food was sinfully good (especially that gravy...oh man!) while I was eating it, but I hated feeling so sluggish and full. We fell into the fast food trap because last week was just really hectic. Andrew worked a solid 75-80 hours last week, and I just never got to the grocery store.
