How I Operate Online (A.K.A My First Video)
Hey guys, today I’m pretty excited to share my first ever video. I actually hadn’t planned on doing one but my Macbook Pro arrived a couple of days ago so I wanted to test out Screenflow (I normally use Camtasia, for Windows).
The video covers which software I use on my computer and how I set-up my web browser for my online projects. If you’re not a blogger or don’t care much for making money online, you might want to skip this post. For everyone else, I hope you enjoy it.

If you can’t see the video because you’re reading this in a feed reader or in your inbox, you can click through to this post to get the goods.
One of my best friends told me I look very serious early on in the video (keep watching and you’ll see that’s not always the case) which I guess is something I can work on as I’m really not that serious. I think video is a great way for you all to connect with me on another level though so I hope it has helped “bring us closer” (so-to-speak).
If any of you make it to the last 11 seconds, you will hear the voices of me and some other awesome people. Thanks to those who sent me their sound files to make that possible: Nathalie, Dayne, Armen, Rosa, Howie, Karen, Victoria, Yavor, and Rose.
“Reading what is possibly the best book I’ve ever read…”
I guess if you include that statement in the first sentence of a blog post, people are going to ask what you’re talking about. Even so, I didn’t expect to receive so many comments and emails asking me which book I was talking about in a recent post.
Well, now I can tell you all about it. Officially launching today is a new book from my friend Tim Brownson (life coach) and co-author John Strelecky (whose books have been translated into 19 languages). With a title like How to Be Rich and Happy, I really expected this book to contain common (and honestly, boring) advice that I’ve heard 100 times before.
How wrong I was. I should have known that already though, having been a fan of Tim for over a year now. This is not your normal book, and it’s not a normal price. At just less than $100, it won’t be for everyone. And that’s OK, I don’t think it should be. This book is packed full of excellent advice and what I love most is that it is overloaded with real life success stories of people who have follow their advice and actually became rich and happy. That’s something I feel is missing from most success books.
The thing is, the people who are willing to pay that much for a book, are the people that are going to take action and actually make the title a reality. After all, it is scientifically proven that people don’t take free or even fairly cheap items that seriously. Only purchase this is you’re willing to do the exercises involved. I did personally, and they took hours of my time, but I found so many areas where I was going wrong that I was literally amazed (Just wait until you do the Values test).
Full Transparency: I will be completely honest here and say that if you purchase the book through this link, I do get a commission. However, I would never promote something I don’t believe in. Trust me, I have been sent tons of books and DVD’s through the post which you’ll never hear about through me. And to prove I’m not just promoting it because Tim is my friend and I actually value it, here’s three things I want to say:
- Do not purchase the book if you’re not willing to put the time in to complete the exercises. They’re awesome, but they are not instant. If you don’t think you can commit, then really, save your money.
Now, enough about Tim and his awesome book, tell me what you think of that video…

I’ll think about the book.
But the video is definetely very good. Both the tips, and the way you made it. I use firefox but i haven’t really been active with plugins or add-ons. But the ones you suggested seem quite useful. I have one installed which blocks a couple of websites that i used to spend (waste) a lot of time on. So it’s a bit of a productivity hack.
Nice. There is an app for Mac called Self Control which does the same thing.
Thanks for the feedback, Jay!
What are your thoughts on chrome i have started using it the last few days and find that it is far faster than firefox (except that after this video i might have to go back to firefox
I do like the speed of Chrome, but I can’t yet customise it how I want to, so I’m sticking with Firefox for now.
Hey Glen, awesome video. I learned a lot from it and also liked your setup – organized and efficient. Thanks for sharing this!
Cheers buddy!
Hi Glen,
Those are some great plugins and I am going to download down some of them to try it out. Great work on your first video and you do seems serious in it.
Cheers,
Vincent
Haha, you would never have said that if I didn’t mention it
Thanks man!
Great vid, got the plugins, setup Google Apps with my sites domain. I’ve been a firefox evangelist for awhile now, nothing better…yet.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge Glen.
Awesome Ron. Google Apps is pretty sexy.
Hey there Glen, very nice video. I’m going to have to start doing videos on my Macbook Pro as well for my blog. That is one area I have not cracked yet. Also, that books sounds very good..I will have to check it out for sure.
Cheers!
Dayne
Give it a shot man, I would love to check it out.
Did you hear your voice at the end?
I sure did! I must say, that is a really cool sound clip collage for your site! Very very clever!
This is awesome! I’m definitely not brave enough for a video (I can’t even do a picture yet!) but I think it brings a great, personal element to the blog.
I can’t wait to see you Dani
I only found out your name through another blogger
After having a quick glimpse into your feed reader, I’m actually very curious about the feeds you subscribe.
Even though I’ve read your blog post about websites you usually follow is there any chance you might share a more complete list of your RSS feeds?

Good bulk
Sup stranger…
Hi Glen,
just bought the book, congrats on your commission
Just wanted to tell you, please don’t send me a free copy of Cloud Living, since I’ve already bought that from you too
If I have a free wish, just take that copy of Cloud Living, and send it anonimously to someone from who you think might need it but doesn’t has the funds to buy it.
All the best
RD
I would say thanks but I think congratulations is more accurate. I know you will really enjoy the book. I eventually put it down after 100 pages to go and eat
That is a very generous offer and I will do that
Great video, despite the fact it just reminds me how woefully inadequate my computer skills are so far! What I really appreciate is your honest advice about not buying the book if you won’t or can’t take action on it now. That honesty is what keeps people like me coming back even when most of your posts are way above my skill level.
Thanks!!
Hi Steve,
Nice to see people notice I’m nothing like many other bloggers with their spammy tactics
Married guy could really use that copy of Cloud Living. I will take action and send your my progress as a testimonial.
Just send me payment proof and you’ll get your copy of CL within minutes
Awesome video You look sexy Yay for the macbook, hows your mac experience so far? Did u try Garageband already? its addictive and pretty fun, I really like it.
I too love Firefox, Tweetdeck and Photoshop and I didnt know you could
Sounds like and interesting book. How many pages it?
BTW, what accent is that? Sounds Northern English. How far off am I?
The book is 218 pages.
As for the accent, I have mentioned here a few times that I’m from Newcastle (north east of England). However, my accent changed a lot since I moved to Cape Town so I don’t really sound much like a geordie anymore.
haha remember the first night i met you.
didn’t understand a thing you said.
but jump and clap doesn’t require words. only glory
