Prize Guidelines
- Your prize should appeal to your readership
- All prizes must be a $100 value or more (and less than $5000 in value)
- Electronics, photography gear and other name brand prizes very well overall.
- Popular products did better than niche products.
- Destination prizes also did well overall, and did best when they either had a high dollar value or were for a popular destination
- Gift certificates for popular products and services attracted many donors (e.g. Amazon.com). Be sure that the winner would be able to purchase a complete product or service on the site without spending additional money (i.e. $200 off on a $2,000 product or service would not perform well)
- Gift baskets and prizes composed of multiple items did not generally do as well. Please contact us if you are thinking of offering this type of prize
- Items with a brand or logo other than the manufacturer’s generally did not do well. Please contact us if you are thinking of offering this type of prize
Some Fine Print
You are responsible for making sure that the prize winner receives their prize. Please make sure that you fully understand (and describe in your blog post) what prize your sponsor is offering, along with any limitations or costs that the winner would incur in using it (for example taxes or other fees on a free hotel room). If you have procured a gift certificate or voucher, the best way to go is to have it sent to you in advance so that you can carefully review the fine print before posting on your blog.
