Valentine's Day Sprinkles Cupcakes

spacer
Ever since college my husband and I have had a tradition every Valentines Day.  We stay at home, I cook the same special meal, and just relax on the couch watching a good, funny, romantic movie (or TV if we’re a little lazy!).  But this year I’m changing it up a little bit.  Not because I didn’t like our normal tradition, just because I think it’s time for change.

See, like I mentioned before, I make the same meal.  Grape Focaccia for appetizer, fish with asparagus and cheesy orzo for the main course, and something sweet for dessert.  But I want to make a different meal this year.  My cooking skills have progressed immensely and I want to make something extra-special.  The thing is, I have no clue what I want to make.

Will you help me?  Please give me ideas on what I should make my husband for Valentines Dinner.  Pretty please!

At least I have some tasty Valentines Day dessert ideas to choose from.  Maybe I’ll make Raspberry Rosewater Cupcakes, Chocolate Soufflé Cupcakes, Red Velvet Oreos, or these Red and Pink Sprinkles Cupcakes.

These cupcakes are one my favorite white cakes with red and pink sprinkles scattered throughout the whole cupcake.  While mixing the sprinkles into the batter, the sprinkles bleed and make a beautiful pink-colored cupcake.  I topped the cupcakes with a tangy cream cheese frosting, and then added some more pink and red sprinkles.

Now what’s more festive for Valentines Day than these cupcakes?

Red Velvet Oreos

spacer

I’m sorry if your one of those people that hate all things Red Velvet around Valentines Day.  If you are, I feel sorry for you.  I do.  Red Velvet is Valentines Day.  It is the dessert for this wonderful, romantic holiday.  So I’ve gone crazy with Red Velvet and created some amazing Red Velvet desserts for you.  And I didn’t just color the desserts red.  I actually created the red velvet flavor in these unique desserts!

First off are these Red Velvet Oreos.  One of your favorite childhood treats, twisted into this delicious Red Velvet version.

I’m not going to lie to you, creating this recipe was not easy.  I struggled to get the oreo texture AND the red velvet flavor all into one small little dessert.  But I did it!  And they came out better than I ever expected.

One thing I struggled with was getting the oreo cookies all the same size.  My solution was to bake the cookies in one baking sheet, creating one large red velvet cookie.  I then used a round cookie cutter to cut out the cookies.  This enabled the cookies to be identical in size and shape.

My husband was addicted to these oreos.  He couldn’t get enough.  When the last oreo was gone, he was seriously disappointed.  Maybe for Valentines Day I’ll bake him another batch.  But shhh, don’t tell him :).

Make a big batch of these for your Valentines Day and everyone around will be asking for more.  I promise!

Milk Bar Mondays – Carrot Cake Truffles

spacer

Welcome to the very first Milk Bar Mondays!

Milk Bar Mondays is a group of blogging baking girls who work their way through the Momofuku Milk Bar Cookbook.  Every three weeks, one girl will choose a recipe and the rest of us will bake it, photograph it, and then tell all of you about it!  For opening week the lovely Audra of The Baker Chick choose Carrot Cake Truffles.

First off let me start with saying that the Momofuku Milk Bar Cookbook is no ordinary baking book.  The recipes are completely unique, challenging, and incredibly mouth-watering.  They are unlike anything else I have ever seen.  You will see recipes like Crack Pie, Cereal Milk, and Compost Cookies – Ever heard of those before?

These Carrot Cake Truffles are not your normal truffle.  Of course they aren’t, how could they be if they are included in this book.  It’s a rich, buttery, and sugary carrot cake, combined with liquid cheesecake, rolled in white chocolate and then milk crumbs.  Yes, there are a lot of components.  Yes, it will take some time.  And yes, it is 100% incredibly worth it!

This is first recipe I made from this cookbook and I can’t wait to dive into more.  If any of the other recipes are like this one – packed with flavor and insane deliciousness – then were all in for a big treat!  Enjoy :)

I LOVE these girl’s blogs!  They are ones I read daily and receive inspiration from all the time.  I’m so honored and excited to be part of this wonderful Milk Bar Mondays group.
