About Sarah Henry

spacer Hi,

This is me in my tiny backyard (home to a prolific Meyer lemon tree) in a photo by my friend Anne Hamersky, who shares my interest in food and farming.

My name is Sarah Henry and I’m a freelance food writer who lives in Berkeley, California with my 12-year-old son. Gabe served as Anne’s gaffer on the photo shoot. He thinks it might be a cool way to make a buck or two.

I started out on the food beat writing about kids and food. I picked up plenty of story ideas while teaching after-school cooking classes, volunteering for five years in the kitchen at the Edible Schoolyard, and feeding my boy, a zealous vegetarian and raw food aficionado who’s not immune to the pleasure of a pilgrimage to a doughnut shop.

Lettuce Eat Kale launched in March 2009, originally as a home for my musings on food, family, and growing greens.

Since then it’s become a place where I share stories about established and emerging food artisans, cover policy matters such as school food and food security, and report on cultural food trends, like the thriving D.I.Y. movement. Oh, and I still write the occasional first-person piece. Most months I give away a cookbook too.

If you have comments about what you read on Lettuce Eat Kale feel free to leave a message on a specific blog entry or contact me directly: sarahhenry0509@gmail.com.

And keep up on juicy food news tidbits by following me on twitter @lettuceeatkale, or friending me on Facebook.

Thanks for stopping by.
