Why Grass Fed?
Environmental Health:
Our current food system put’s our prairies under the constant threat of the plow for the planting of corn and soybeans. These crops are not to feed people, they are to feed animals. The ramifications of this destructive system include:
- Overuse of fossil fuels
- Loss of plant & animal species
- Unnatural environment for animals
- Unhealthy food.
The environmental benefits of Wild Idea Buffalo meat are irreplaceable. Because our animals are raised in their natural Great Plains habitat, we are participating and contributing to these environmental benefits:
- Buffalo are the native herbivore of the prairies and are the key component in maintaining a healthy prairie eco-system.
- Preserving prairie grasslands, that are constantly under the threat of the plow.
- Maintaining a neutral carbon footprint, by pasture grazing and field harvesting. Native grasses are natural carbon sequesters. Balanced pasture-only grazing eliminates the use of fossil fuels needed for planting and harvesting grains, trucking animals to feedlots, hauling grains to animals in feedlots and finally trucking animals to slaughterhouses.
Animal Health:
Wild Idea buffalo graze in much of the same way that their ancestors did, with thousands of acres to roam. They are treated with respect in life and given dignity in death. Wild Idea Buffalo are:
- 100% pastured, grass-fed only
- 100% antibiotic & hormone free
- 100% free roaming
- 100% non-confined
- 100% humanely harvested
Human Health
The nutritional benefits of Grass-fed Bison meat cannot be understated. They include:
- Grass-fed Bison meat is naturally leaner, which means lower in calories.
- Grass-fed Bison meat is lower in “bad” saturated fat and higher in “good fat” or omega-3 fatty acids. Up to sixty percent of the fatty acid content in the grasses on the great plains contain omega-3 and are found in abundance in buffalo allowed to graze on native grasses, which is 3.5 times more omega-3s then grain fed bison. The benefits from a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids include: cancer prevention, lowering cholesterol, as well as reducing inflammation.
- Grass-fed bison meat has a greater concentration of iron, as well as other essential nutrients.
- Grass-fed bison meat can contain up to four times as much vitamin E than feedlot meat. This potent antioxidant has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Grass-fed bison meat is a highly nutrient dense food and….. it’s delicious!
