I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to discover this - but the keyboard shortcut to duplicate a layer in Photoshop is CTRL+J. Seriously, it’s that simple.

This could’ve saved me a ton of time over the years - and probably highlights how important it is to educate yourself about keyboard shortcuts!
