It’s a Mad Men Affair
I know I mentioned that we attended a “Mad Men” party last weekend. We just got the rest of the shots from the event and I couldn’t wait to post them. My friends threw the most fabulous birthday party, complete with 1960’s decor, a bartender and a photographer. It was so much fun! I can’t imagine not having a bartender at any future parties now. The guy worked so hard all night to keep us ladies in fruity “punch” and French martinis (the men preferred Scotch and cigars).
There’s nothing like a costume party…in another life I’m pretty sure I was an actress because I really get into the spirit: hair and makeup tutorials from You Tube, 1963 cocktail dress from a local vintage shop and accessories handed down to me from two of my grandmothers. If I had to pick an era to live in, the 1960’s would be high on the list (purely for the fashion, cocktails and furniture of course). Plus, having a theme really loosens up the party guests and is a fantastic ice breaker for groups of people who don’t know each other.
What do you think of costume parties? Love them or dread them?

Totally love costume parties. I even like them better than Halloween (which I also love) because it gives some direction to your costume.
you’re right. I don’t love Halloween nearly as much and that’s why- too much pressure to think of something to be. And parents rarely seem to dress up around here for Halloween anyway.
FAB!!!! Love the pix – you look amazing. I *adore* costume parties. Ones that are really well done. I would have a themed party for every season. How much would I love to do a “summer whites” party on Memorial Day Weekend? Um – YES PLEASE!!!
The problem is getting people into the spirit of it. I feel this way about weddings too. In my girly heart of hearts, I would’ve loved to have had a black-tie wedding with gents in penguin suits and ladies in long dresses. *sigh* The art of dressing up seems to have faded into history. And if I see one more person at the ballet or symphony in freakin jeans I’m just gonna stop going! I can’t bear to see slovenly dressed people at fancy events anymore!
I agree- I would always prefer to be overdressed rather than under.
What an amazing looking party! I’m ashamed, maybe embarrassed is a better word, to admit that I’ve never been to one.
I must rectify this one day.
I do admire (and love!) the way you went into it with such gusto. So fun!
Thanks! I can’t take credit for the party, but it was great- attention to detail really makes or breaks it (plus fun people, of course).
And I do love to dress up
