Vargas Sending Heavyweight Notice This Weekend

Press release posted on Feb 07, 2008 at 10:03 AM

Bronx, NY - When Devin Vargas splashed onto the pro boxing scene back in 2004 after coming home from the Summer Games in Greece, it was clear, after knocking out his first three opponents in the first round, that the boxing world would be feeling his “ripple effect” for years to come. This Saturday, February 9th at The Aquarius Casino Resort in Laughlin, Nevada, Devin Vargas (14-0, 6 KO’s) will bring his undefeated record and power into the ring against the very rugged Charles Davis (17-14, 4 KO’s). In what is sure to be a crowd- pleasing knock-down-drag-out heavyweight main event battle, Vargas will not only be facing a tough test, but with a victory on Saturday, he will be making another important stride towards a heavyweight title shot opportunity. As the 2004 US Olympic Team Captain, Vargas is used to stepping up to a challenge and taking the lead, which is exactly what he plans to do against Davis, who has defeated the likes of “King” Arthur Williams, Javier Mora, and Willie Chapman.

Since his days of becoming a two-time National Golden Gloves Champion (2000 and 2001), Vargas has continued to elevate his level of competition in each and every fight. Consistently taking on the best opponents available, so that one day, when he is called to take on the heavyweight champ, Vargas will be ready and able to take the championship.
