V Prospal resigned- Move has INTERESTING aspects

AUTHOR: gary2 | IN: Blue Jackets | COMMENTS: No Comments

The Blue Jacket’s extension signing of Vinny Propsal was a surprise to many people. I for one sure am glad it was done, done now and done with class. This should be a win-win-win. How so, you ask, well let me tell you. 1st it’s a win for the player. A 37 year old gets another contract. the second part of this is the player is getting a “gentleman’s agreement” for continued employment after he quits playing. Continue reading this post »

Proud to be a Brother- Re…. Blog-a Sphere

AUTHOR: gary2 | IN: Blue Jackets | COMMENTS: No Comments

The blogging community deserves a few cu-does both those who operate/write for blogs and those who follow/comment. Here’s why. When there is an issue, such as the recent protest, All points are discussed and reviewed. All viewpoints were honored and although not all agreed, The issue passed with no fighting, name calling or a North vs South brother against brother hurtful feelings.   In the Continue reading this post »

Cabin Fever

AUTHOR: Howye | IN: Blue Jackets | COMMENTS: No Comments

Over the past few weeks there has been much sniping in the Blue Jacket community, people have been getting testy with each other. Normally level headed bloggers and twitterers (tweeters?) have been showing a major league case of cabin fever. Despite the relatively mild winter here in central Ohio we are in the doldrums of a world class bad hockey season, at least for Jackets fans.

Columbus Media Take It Out on The Blue Jackets

Earlier today the Columbus Blue Jackets beat writer for the Dispatch, Aaron Portzline crossed the lines of professionalism and journalistic ethics. Many will argue that blogging and social media outlets should not be held to the same standard as those “legitimate” reporters are held to, however when a professional writer for a newspaper is working for that publication and publishing anything under those auspices he must be held to the same standards as the printed publication.

At 4:23 this afternoon, Mr. Portzline posted this to his twitter account: “San Jose jus[sic] scored again. It’s now 7-0.” Of course, last night’s final score was a six to nothing lose for the Blue Jackets. Humor can be used to lighten the tone when writing about a normally light-hearted subject that has not gone as expected. However, Mr. Portzline’s joke was not in his article about the game or any follow-up notes to be published to the Dispatch’s website or blog. The joke was made as a one-off on twitter.

Increasing Assets [Players whose value have gone up]

AUTHOR: gary2 | IN: Blue Jackets | COMMENTS: No Comments

As we approach the deadline for trades and of course an open season this summer, I thought it might be interesting to recount which players have a value that is higher now then at the start of the year. Only players at the Blue Jacket club level are considered. I am not saying these players should be traded , what I am trying to project is that these players have increased in value. If they should be traded, the Jackets would get more now then at the start of the year.

In this disastrous year, it great that there are actually some players whose value have gone up. [That is in my estimation, but I am trying to view this as other teams in the league might.] The players not mentioned below have either decreased in value or stayed the same as the start of the year. An example would be Ryan Johansen, he was viewed as a good prospect and is still viewed as a good prospect. developing, but still a rookie and about the same value. Continue reading this post »

How the “Dispatch” dispatches Good Blue Jacket News

AUTHOR: gary2 | IN: Blue Jackets | COMMENTS: No Comments

I hope everyone in Columbus Land and the Blue Jacket fan base noted the Dispatch coverage of the news that Columbus was awarded the NHL “All Star” game for 2013. There was a great story by Aaron Portzline. BUT it was an” also” on the front of the Sports Section. It was not even the lead article of that section. You would think an event that is expected to bring $12-$25 MILLION unexpected dollars of revenue into Columbus would have earned some sort of page 1 notice. But no, nada. Nada, NADA!!!
It was not as if the announcement was unexpected, the announcement Saturday simply confirmed the rumors that were widely circulated. But the Dispatch chose to not even list it in the interior feature headlines. If you want to protest, I suggest protesting how the “Dispatch” manipulates news.
