About Heidi Smith Luedtke

Heidi Smith Luedtke, PhD, is a personality psychologist and freelance writer who specializes in personal development, people skills and parenting. Her articles have been published in more than 70 parenting and women’s interest magazines. She is a regular contributor to Military Spouse.

Heidi earned her doctorate in psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and her scholarly research on well-being and identity has been published in top peer-reviewed journals. A dynamic teacher, Heidi was named Outstanding Academy Educator at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. After 15 years, she left full-time academic work to raise a family and chart her own career course.

Heidi believes knowledge should be useful. Her skillful application of psychology to real-world challenges earned Heidi a presidential appointment to the Salzburg Global Seminar on “Strengthening Democracy: Women and Political Power” and the role of chief social scientist for the Defense Task Force on Sexual Assault in the Military Services. She is constantly looking for ways to leverage learning.

When she isn’t reading or writing, Heidi enjoys running, cooking and scuba diving. She currently lives in central New Jersey with her husband, a career Air Force officer, their two young children and two rambunctious puppies.
