The Personal Story – A Work in Progress

Born in 1969 to a 17-year-old runaway living in a San Francisco commune, I might have taken a straighter path to the writing life. But somehow I emerged from a childhood haze of macrame, alfalfa sprouts sandwiches, and band rehearsal in the basement to rebel in the extreme: I became a CPA. I married an engineer who excelled at table manners, had two kids, and moved to an idyllic cul-de-sac, where—it turns out—life is just as ridiculous as it was in my unconventional upbringing. So in 2007 I let my accounting license lapse and started telling stories made me laugh, cry, or cope. Sometimes all three.

I believe it’s your moral responsibility to find the thing that makes you lose track of time, the thing that empties all the racing thoughts from your head and leaves you deaf to the oven timer so you forget about the cookies until the smoke finds you. Writing is my thing. Here’s to hoping you find yours. And do it.

In addition to writing I love yoga, corn chips, crushes, cocktails, The Sun magazine, bossing people around, Sour Patch Kids with Raisinettes, my amazing family, and spreadsheets.
