IN HER SHOES: HGTV Magazine

Posted on February 10, 2012 by effortless

Today’s IN HER SHOES is a great one. I’ve always dreamed of seeing my name on the masthead of a shelter magazine, which means I pretty much want to swap careers with today’s featured lady.Today I’m featuring a day in the life of Frances Bailey the Style Director of HGTV Magazine.

————————

Here’s a day in my life.  I do really love what I do.  I’m sooo proud of HGTV Mag and what we’re creating.  Thrilled to share the chaos that I call my life….

7:00 AM

Wake up to crickets sounding out of my iphone.

Put on the kettle to make coffee. Every morning I sip from the cup I got at our office Christmas Exchange.  My fun colleague, Jennifer Berno, made me a cup with hottie, Ryan Gosling. Who doesn’t want to start their day with him??

spacer

7:30 AM

Check emails; watch my new obsession, Charlie Rose, on the new CBS Morning Show then dress.   After looking at my day’s calendar I realize that I need more caffeine and head over to get fully fueled at Joe’s Coffee off University Place.   Not only does their coffee rock but they do fun designs on top.  It’s like Design Star for baristas!  I also love Joe’s because they sell Amy Sedaris’s cupcakes which she makes when she’s in the mood. They are de-lish and she’s from my hometown, Raleigh, NC as if I needed another reason to love her.  Being in Joe’s and thinking about Amy makes me realize that I haven’t signed up yet for AmyandTedsupperclub.com. This is an underground Brooklyn supper club that is SO MUCH FUN and named for Amy Sedaris and Ted Allen. Gotta sign up for the next supper club as they fill up quickly. It’s no. 28 thing to do today.

9:05 AM

Jump on subway at Union Square Stop to admire the dueling musicians on the platform.

Head to the flower district to snap pictures of flowers for a meeting later on that day.  The market is one of NYC’s secrets… and I love the gang down there.   Sigh.  Spring is comin’!!!  Stop to debate buying some paper whites for my apt.  Force myself to stay focused on task. Must find summer-y flowering bushes for a shoot next week.  On the hunt…

spacer

11:30AM

Jumped back on subway and headed to the office.  Excited to see the Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, West Elm Public Relations crew that’s come in to show the Style Dept their latest and greatest for Summer 2012.  As usual, they don’t disappoint.

spacer

NOON

Drool heavily over all their fun brand new loot and get caught up on all the fun stuff they have going on then fly downtown to meet up with the fabulous Courtney Novogratz.  Am there to scout their NYC home which is A-mazing.  Having house envy… They found out I was from NC and told me they met at a party there. Love the love. No big surprise here but Robert and Courtney ooze style and Could Not Be Nicer.

Here’s Team Courtney hard at work in their too cool to be true house. Can I move in?

spacer

spacer

1:30-4pm

Hustle back up town for meeting/brainstorm/checking emails session.  Have an art meeting to flesh out a story for a shoot next week.  Calls/emails/meetings then more calls/emails/meetings/chatter.  Take a pinterest break but I have to put a timer on it as it’s my wormhole.  Find some visual inspiration there then back to the emails. Set plans for upcoming Chicago trip and send out emails to friends there.  So many cool homes to scout, shops to see and don’t even get me started on the foodie scene…

4:30 PM

Prep for cover meeting with uber talented stylist, Scott Horne.  He’s slightly tortured to pose for me but I insist.

spacer

6:20 PM

Back to desk.  In fabric heaven… Shoot is for our June/July Cover. I want to bring in Hawaiian Tropic and Margaritas to set the mood.  Love summer shoots…

spacer

Grab a chat with the crew/check a few fav blogs then review pictures taken at the NY Gift show this weekend.  LOVED Tina Frey’s outfit (isn’t she adorable) and love how she goes with her chic chandeliers.

spacer spacer

7:42

Head out the door to join friends in town for the gift show at watering hole in the East Village.  Laugh, dish and compare notes on life.

10:05

Walk home and check emails while watching The Philadelphia Story on TCM.  Love Katherine Hepburn. Checked out the skinny on Quest Love at Bam in April. Must Buy Tickets.

spacer

12 AM

Lights out!

A big thanks to Frances for sharing her day with us. I can’t wait to get my hands on the latest issue of HGTV magazine.

Chic Powder Room

Posted on February 9, 2012 by effortless

I’m absolutely in love with Anna’s recent bathroom re-vamp:

My favorite part has to be the polaroid gallery wall hung up with Japanese masking tape. I know it’s been seen a lot throughout the blog world, but I’ve personally used it so I’m still in love with it!

Here are some items you can use to recreate the look:

spacer

Small Audrey Mirror $69
Ferrara Wall Sconce $130
LOVE print by Heart Fish Press Print $20
Afgan Rug $159
Striped Pillar $18
Joyce Bud Vase $2.95
Box of 10 Black Penny Tiles $68.99
Japanese Masking Tape $4 a roll

Ah so pretty! I need a new bathroom to re-do.

Lilac & Orange

Inspired from this mornings post that featured a fabric in an orange and lilac colorway I simply had to share this image using the same color story.

The room was designed by Lilly Bunn Interiors. Lilly blogs about design over at Lilly’s Notebook.Lilly actually lives in NY, which makes me very excited. I must contact her and set up a design date with her!

Treat yo self: Week 4

Posted on February 8, 2012 by effortless

Jon will probably disagree that I need this weeks treat yo self item, but I’m a fool in love with custom fabric from Domesticate available through Spoonflower:

spacer

This is a just a small sampling of some of the fabrics available. I think the marbleized fabric has to be more favorite.

Have you ordered from Spoonflower? What was your experience like? I’ve ordered from them and thought the customer service and shipping was great. My only dislike was that I went with the most basic fabric and when it arrived it felt like a really inexpensive sheet and in the end I couldn’t use it on the project I wanted. Next time I would purchase a couple of swatches to check out the weight of the different fabrics in person.

Enlarged Toile

Posted on February 7, 2012 by effortless

One of my favorite toiles by Manuel Canovas is orange and pink and has elephants. Of course I would love it.

Here it is used in a bedroom:

I recently stumbled on my favorite toile in mural form. The nursery below features it enlarged and I had to share. Dying to know how the rest of the room turned out.

Has anyone ever seen this nursery finished? I would love to get a peek of it.

Enlarged pastoral artwork

Posted on February 7, 2012 by effortless

I recently spotted these amazing prints that were featured at the NYIGF on Kelly’s blog:

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for toile and the piece reminded me of an enlarged toile so it had me at hello.

I quickly find some similar prints available via Art that fits:
View on the banks of canal:

Old Athens, Garden of Eden:

Road through the woods:

The paper prints range from the low $80s to the low $200s depending on the size. I would snag one up and slice it in half like the inspiration shot and then frame them or mount them on wood like Jenny just recommended.

Weekend Recap: Hudson Update

Posted on February 6, 2012 by effortless

Time is literally flying with Hudson. He no longer looks like a little baby to me, but a little man already. I’ve been soaking in all of the special moments I can get with him. Friday I had big plans to get up to date on my client billing, but Hudson had other plans. Seems like he is going through a growth spurt and he wanted to be held by mommy most of the day. So we had a nice morning in bed.

How could I say no to this face?

spacer

I was even to snap a shot of his smile. How wonderful are baby smiles when you finally know they are real and not gas.  spacer

spacer

Smiling quickly turned to his cooing face:

spacer

So sweet! How bad is it that the interior decorator in wants to get new covers made for his boppy in some stylish fabric. I’m so close to asking my workroom to make some.

The rest of the weekend was spent at an install, getting supplies for a client’s ottoman that we are making from scratch, finally cleaning up my office and some more snuggles in bed.

spacer

Seriously, he is the most delicious thing ever.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend as well! Happy Monday!

I sorta kinda thought I was over chevron. Shocking, right?

Then I saw these:

spacer

They totally had me at hello! Only $49 for a set of 3.

Just look at all of the colors they come in:

spacer

I guess I’m going steady with chevron again. spacer

Ok so progress on wrapping up the nursery is moving at a snails pace. But don’t worry it will be finished really soon. Still waiting on the arrival of some items. The waiting is driving me mad so I just had to share with you one of my latest finds.
