chocolate and burnt orange swiss roll

For the last couple of days, I have been cold to the bone.  15 minutes waiting for a train last night on a freezing platform did not help matters.  Nor, frankly, does my inability to work the timer on the boiler.  And the fact that we need to turn the heating off if we want hot water.

It's the kind of cold where you need to sleep in a jumper.  Or maybe two.  And definitely a pair of socks.  I can tell you, my bedroom attire is pretty darn attractive at the moment.  Even so, I went to sleep cold and I woke up cold.

Work is really busy right now both for me and for my boyfriend. We are both surviving on limited sleep and our interaction is mainly confined to a muffled conversation every morning about how exhausted we feel.

january in a photo a day

Like many others, I took part in a January photo a day challenge that's been doing the rounds on the internet.    All of these pictures will be familiar to you if you follow me on instagram and many were shared on twitter as well but I think together they give a fairly good insight into what a month in my life is like.  Except there is usually more cake.

Judging by the responses on my last post, I'm not the only one who is craving some sunshine right now.

This isn't actually the post that I was intending to share today.  The subject of that post was, of course, equally delicious but a bit heavier.  A bit more substantial.  A bit more of a winter pudding that will stick to your insides.
