Information

This is a place for writers of all sorts to share their ideas, find support and feedback, and report their progress.

Whether you're a blogger, a NaNoWriMo participant, or are writing the Next Great American Novel, we writers need to stick together. Want to report your weekly word count goals, get feedback on a piece you're working on, ask for writerly advice, or just hang around to avoid actually writing?  Then this is the place for you!

I want this group to be whatever you guys want it to be, so be active, start discussions, and generally make yourselves at home here.  :)

What are you reading right now?

Started by Jamie Thome. Last reply by Kari Wolfe Jan 20. 13 Replies 0 Likes

I firmly believe that what we read influences how we write, how we think, and what interests us in the future; therefore, I'm terribly curious as to what y'all are reading right now.  Also, I"m…Continue

Hey people....I am from Mumbai, India, how are you'll doing? I am here to do something different and exciting with my life, so I am expecting a lot of 'did-it-first-time' things :) I have just started blogging my small travel tales (so I am pretty much an amateur), which you can find in my blog site. I hope you'll respond with honest comments, which will be taken seriously to mind, not to heart :)

Hope to hear from you'll soon. Cheers.

Here is my first poem in decades. Feel free to critique.

Whippoorwills’ Cry by Don Odom

Where, oh where, do the whippoorwills cry
Like they did in my youth, long gone by?
Sitting on the porch, watching lightning bugs glow,
Never wondering if they would ever be gone.

Hearing the crickets chirp and screech owl’s wail,
Waiting for the catfish to tug on my reel.
Glass of sweet tea, and granny’s hoecake
Homemade buttered biscuits with blackberry not grape.

The long dirt road to the old swimming hole
20 gauge on a squirrel scrambling up a big oak.
Hear the hounds coming toward my deer stand
Heart in my throat at the crack of a limb.

Cane pole snatching a hand size bluegill
Knocking down a wasp nest and running like hell.
Ramps for my bike and dirt clod wars
Wrasslin’ with my brothers on the living room floor.

Where, oh where, do the whippoorwills cry?
Never thinking I’d miss all those times.

I found out about NanoWriMo here, thanks for the info Kelly. Never thought it was something I could do though I had it on my bucket list. Long story short; I am now over 15 000 words and met fellow Joburgers (Johannesburg writers, South Africa) last Saturday for a write-in and it was one of the best experiences ever. Motivated me to write, so much.

I just wrote a little piece this morning and am wondering where I can post it for comments/critique from other Impossible League members?
